|12 March 2005|
As a gesture of appreciation to its customers and business partners, Baiduri Bank today (12 March 2005) hosted a Chinese New Year Dinner at The Centrepoint Hotel, Gadong. More than 750 invited guests attended the dinner.
In his welcoming speech, Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank, reiterated some of the major achievements of Baiduri Bank Group in 2004, including the successful launch of new products including the Baiduri Ladies Card, Home Ownership Loan, Home Refinancing Loan and Home Equity Loan, as well as special promotions such as the 10th Anniversary Savings Account Promotion and Credit Card Balance Transfer programme. The year 2004 also saw Baiduri Bank opening two new branches at Tutong and The Mall – the latter being an innovative concept propelled by strong commitment to enhance customer service – and relocation of Baiduri Card Centre to a new premise.
On top of that, Baiduri Bank was awarded the Bank of the Year Brunei by The Banker magazine, Financial Times Business, UK, for the third consecutive year. To commemorate the Bank’s outstanding performance, the Bank also received a Bracken Award from the internationally renowned publication.
Having celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2004, Baiduri Bank is well-poised for a new decade of excellence with major investment in a new core banking system, new corporate visions as encapsulated in its newly launched branding campaign ‘It’s a great big world’, and a staff strength of more than 300.
Looking ahead, Mr Imhof said Baiduri Bank has “ambitious plans” for growth.
“We have acquired the prestigious American Express franchise in Brunei and have just launched the first Baiduri American Express Credit Card. We are now the only bank in Brunei issuing three major credit card brands: Visa, MasterCard and American Express,” said Mr Imhof.
Alongside development in card business, there are also plans to continually expand the Bank’s network of branches and ATMs to meet the needs of customers. The Bank will place greater emphasis on wealth management products and services, with aggressive plans in the pipeline.
Mr Imhof also expressed his confidence in the global economic environment in 2005, citing the relatively high growth rate of Asian economies, favourable oil and gas prices as well as the launch of national development projects by His Majesty’s Government to boost the domestic economy and spur the growth of SMEs.
“In this context, Baiduri Bank Group has the goal to become a truly integrated commercial bank for the Bruneians,” said Mr Imhof. With core strengths such as innovation, dynamism, financial solidity and skilled human resources, the Bank will continue to excel in the highly competitive environment, bringing exceptional benefits and high-quality service to its customers.
To further support the development of local Chinese community, Baiduri Bank also provided financial assistance for underprivileged students from Chung Hwa Middle School BSB, St. Andrew’s School and St. George’s School. The donations were presented by Mr Pierre Imhof to the respective students in the presence of Mdm Kho Guik Lan, principal of Chung Hwa Middle School, Mr Jacob Chin, principal of St. Andrew’s School and Mr Gerald Sim Poh Ann, principal of St. George’s School.
A series of entertaining programmes were lined-up for the evening. The guests were enthralled by the lively performances by Mediacorp artiste Irene Ang – better known as “Mrs Rosie Phua” from Singapore’s highest-rated sitcom “Phua Chu Kang” – who was also named Best Female Comedian at the Asia Television Awards.
Equally captivating was the performance by Mark Lee, well-loved comedian-actor who has starred in a number of popular sitcoms and movies, including Money No Enough (1998), Liang Po Po (1999), I Not Stupid (2002), I Do I Do (2004) and Holland V (2004).
A similar function was held yesterday (11 March 2005) at St. Michael’s Parish Hall, Seria, for the bank’s customers and business associates based in Seria and Kuala Belait.
