The 11th Baiduri Bank Charity Golf took place from 28 – 30 April 2006 at the RBA Golf Club. This is a fundraising initiative undertaken by the Baiduri Bank Group in support of charity work for special children and was held with the support of strategic partners QAF Eurokars Sdn Bhd, QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, QAF Transport Sdn Bhd, QAF Brunei, Ben Foods (B) Sdn Bhd, MasterCard International and media supporter Brunei Press Sdn Bhd.

This year’s tournament saw an overwhelming response from the public with up to 425 golfers signing up. “This is far beyond our expectation and is a record for this tournament and, I dare say, for any golf tournament ever in Brunei Darussalam” Chairman of Organizing Committee, Andrew Young said. This year a Junior Golfer Division was added which attracted 17 junior players.

The Baiduri Bank Charity Golf 2006 featured an attractive array of luxurious hole-in-one prizes, including a BMW 325i, a Porsche Boxster 987, a BMW 320i and a Land Rover Freelander 5-door Diesel (M) for hole 2, 5, 12 and 14 respectively. Novelty prizes for longest drive and nearest to the pin were also awarded.

On top of that, more than 40 golfers brought home great prizes from the charity draw held in conjunction with the tournament. Prizes included roundtrip tickets to Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City and Manila, Phillips home theatre system, Aifa 21” flat screen TV, iPod Nano, cash vouchers and many more.

An official prize presentation ceremony was held at the RBA Golf Club on 30 April 2006. This event was graced by the presence of the Guest of Honor, HRH Pg Isteri Pg Anak Hajah Zariah binti Almarhum Pg Pemancha Pg Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, Chairperson of the Baiduri Bank Group. She was accompanied by HRH Prince Qawi, Executive Deputy Chairman & CEO of QAF.

During the prize presentation, HRH Pg Isteri Pg Anak Hajah Zariah presented a donation to Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam for $27,440, a therapeutic ultrasound equipment to Pusat Ehsan for use in their work with special children, $1690 cash directly donated by golfers during the tournament to Pusat Ehsan and a special presentation of a laptop to Md Bahri from Child Development Centre. Md Bahri, born without hands, uses his feet to operate the laptop at school. “Md Bahri teaches us how to overcome in our daily lives” said Andrew Young.

Since its founding in 1996, the Baiduri Bank Charity Golf has been actively involved in sponsorships and projects with welfare bodies including the Child Development Centre, Pusat Ehsan and SMARTER Brunei. Proceeds from the Charity Golf Tournament have also been channeled towards upgrading the facilities at local charities, providing educational toys and equipment for special needs children, as well as funding medical treatment for individuals suffering from life-threatening ailments.
