| BAIDURI BANK SPONSORS SPECIAL OLYMPICS BOCCE COMPETITION 2008 |

Bandar Seri Begawan, 22nd August 2008. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, Baiduri Bank regularly makes contributions to various charity and welfare organizations in Brunei with the aim to raise public awareness about the needs of special people and to promote activities that would contribute towards special people gaining acceptance in the wider society.
In line with these commitments, Baiduri Bank became a major sponsor to assist in organizing the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Bocce Competition that is currently being held in Brunei Darussalam. The event, which began on 18th August, will end on 24th August 2008.
This is the second time Brunei Darussalam is hosting the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Bocco Competition. The participating countries are Bangladesh, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore and the host country, Brunei.
The Official Opening Ceremony was held yesterday afternoon at the Padang dan Belapan Complex of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Berakas. Present as Guest of Honour was Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Puteri ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah.
Ms Veronica Chong, Senior Manager, Personnel and Finance and Ms Dorothy Newn, Manager, Marketing and Public Relations, of Baiduri Bank were present to witness the spirit and enthusiasm of special athletes. The programme included a march past by the special athletes and the recital of the Special Olympics Oath. The reading of the Oath was led by a special athlete from Brunei, and read, “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave at the attempt”. A demonstration of the “Young Athletes Programme” was also held.
Baiduri Bank has been actively sponsoring sports events for special groups that are held in Brunei. Among the recent events sponsored by the Bank were the Special Olympics in 2004 and 2006 and the Special Olympics Bocce Competition in 2005. |
