PAY WATER AND ELECTRICITY BILLS THROUGH BANKS

Bandar Seri Begawan, 24 November 2009 - Customers of the Department of Electrical Services (DES) and Water Services Department of Public Works Department (PWD) will now be able to pay their Water and Electricity bills through participating banks. The new Utility Bill Payment service will be available through Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Baiduri Bank, HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) with effect from today.

In addition to the existing DES and PWD counters services, customers can now pay their bills through Online Banking, ATMs, Cash Deposit Machines, Cheque Deposit Machines, Phone Banking as well as through conventional bank counter services.

The six payment channels provided by the respective participating banks are listed in the table below. Terms and Conditions are subjected to the participating banks.

The Government Utility Bill Payment Services via Banks initiated by the Treasury Department is in line with the Ministry of Finance Strategic Plan aimed at improving the Government revenue collection and is an integral part of the e-Payment initiative.

The current arrangement will initially focuses on the payment of electricity and water bills and will be extended to cater for other revenue collections in the foreseeable future. The initiative also demonstrates the continuing effort of the Government in providing better quality and convenient delivery of services to the public via the ICT enabled interactivity and connectivity. It is also in alignment with the goals of the e-Government Strategic Plan 2009-2014 and helps to foster closer cooperation with the private sector.
