As a gesture of appreciation to its customers and business partners based in Seria and Kuala Belait, Baiduri Bank today hosted a Chinese New Year Dinner at St Michael’s Parish Hall, Seria. More than 350 invited guests attended the dinner.

In his welcoming speech, Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank, reiterated some of the major achievements of Baiduri Bank Group in 2003, including the successful launch of new card products such as Baiduri MTV Card and Baiduri i-Card (for Internet purchases), promotions such as MasterCard Swipe n Win in conjunction with Brunei Grand Sale and Baiduri Savings Promotion 2003, expansion of the ATM network from 12 to 15, and very importantly, attaining the Bank of the Year Brunei 2003 accolade awarded by the internationally renowned magazine, The Banker. The latter is an exceptionally outstanding performance as few banks around the world have been able to win the prestigious award in two consecutive years.

These are on top of better financial performances which will strengthen further the bank and allow it to pursue rapid growth. “We are proud of these achievements which have been made in just 10 years,” said Mr Imhof.

Mr Imhof also attributed the bank’s achievements to the unwavering support from its shareholders and Board of Directors, as well as the dedication, dynamism and professionalism of its staffs, 99% of which are local.

Looking ahead, Mr Imhof expressed his confidence in the local and regional markets. “We expect the development of infrastructure and industrial projects in Brunei to stimulate the economic growth and we shall make all efforts in order that Baiduri Bank, as a major local bank, plays an active role in this economic development,” he said.

In addition, the new core banking system provides the bank with more powerful management tools to support its widening clientele and expanding range of products without compromising on service quality, security and confidentiality of information. “Innovation, creativity, dynamism are keywords that remain the vectors of our growth,” said Mr Imhof.

To further support the development of Chinese communities in Seria and Kuala Belait, Baiduri Bank also sponsored a year’s school fees for one underprivileged student from Chung Ching Middle School, Seria and Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait respectively. The donations were presented by Mr Pierre Imhof to Mr Chong Vui Jin, representing Chung Ching Middle School, and Mr Lau Shiew Yuen, representing Chung Hua Middle School.

A series of entertaining programmes were lined-up for the evening. The guests were enthralled by the lively performances by Suzie Wong, the flirtatious yet hilarious persona who not only sang but indulged in a mix of stand-up comedy and audience participation.

One of the highlights of the evening’s entertainment was Phua Chu Kang Show Time – a 60-minute performance comprising singing, activities and comedian acts by the well-loved Gurmit Singh, Singapore’s Jim Carrey, who plays the uncouth, straight-talking contractor in the award-winning sitcom PCK Pte Ltd.
