Baiduri Bank and the Department of Electrical Services (DES) today signed a new 5-year merchant agreement to provide the public with greater convenience for payment of electrical bills using American Express, Visa or MasterCard credit, debit and prepaid cards issued by any Bank.

With greater acceptance of these top three card brands, members of the public can now enjoy various payment options for electrical services.

In addition to the merchant agreement, both parties will also promote the 0% Instalment Plan, a flexible repayment scheme that enables Baiduri Cardmembers to pay their electricity bills in easy instalments of 12 or 24 months at 0% interest.

Baiduri Bank and the Department of Electrical Services formalised the signing ceremony at the Department of Electrical Services headquarters, Old Airport in Berakas. Signing on behalf of Baiduri Bank was Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank while representing the Department of Electrical Services was Awang Haji Aziz bin Abdul Hamid, Director of Electrical Services.

Witnessing the signing agreement was Mr Ti Eng Hui, Deputy General Manager of Retail Banking and Branch Network and Awang Haji Ismail bin Puteh, Acting Deputy Director of Electrical Services. Also present at the signing ceremony was senior management from the Department of Electrical Services and Baiduri Bank.

“The new agreement between Baiduri Bank and Department of Electrical Services will enable both parties to provide reliable and convenient mode of payments to the local consumers. This will also strengthen Baiduri Bank’s ability to deliver enhanced services as well as support the delivery channels to meet the growing needs of our Cardmembers,” said Mr Pierre Imhof.

Awang Haji Aziz bin Abdul Hamid added that Baiduri Bank is also supporting the Department of Electrical Services in an effort to reduce outstanding balances and facilitate the contribution towards debt reduction. At the same time, this new agreement provides mechanism for the public to manage their financial commitment better.

Under this agreement, customers will be able to pay for their electricity bills and other related services supplied by the Electrical Department with American Express Card, Visa and MasterCard credit, debit and prepaid card issued by any Bank. This is made possible as Baiduri Bank is the only bank in Brunei to hold franchise licence of three major brands namely American Express, Visa and MasterCard. This provides Baiduri Bank ready access to the global payment network of these payment card companies.

In conjunction with the signing ceremony, Baiduri Bank will be running a roadshow on its 0% Instalment Plan at the Department of Electrical Services, Old Airport today. This will be followed by similar roadshows at other DES branches across the country for the rest of the week.

Visitors to the Baiduri Bank booth can also take the opportunity to apply for the Baiduri American Express, Visa or MasterCard credit card.
