Baiduri Bank today held a graduation ceremony at The Rizqun International Hotel for a group of twenty three Personal Financial Planners who have successfully completed the Certificate in Financial Planning programme offered by the Singapore College of Insurance.

The ceremony was graced by the Guest of Honour, Awang Haji Rozan bin Dato Paduka Hj Mohamad, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance. Also in attendance were senior officials from the Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance; Brunei International Financial Centre (BIFC), and the senior management of Baiduri Bank.

The Certificate in Financial Planning programme provides financial professionals with advanced financial planning knowledge and skills to better assist their customers. Upon completion of the programme, participants will be qualified to assist individual customers in assessing their financial standing, identifying their financial and lifestyle goals, devising strategies on managing their personal finances, wealth management and retirement planning.

The certificate programme was taught by the Singapore College of Insurance, a leading institution actively involved in financial services education and the certification of insurance sales professionals and insurance practitioners. The College offers a wide range of professional seminars and workshops on technical topics as well as awards professional designations including the prestigious Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and the Chartered Life Underwriter designations.

Speaking at the official ceremony, Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank said, “Since the beginning of this year, we have made strong progress in promoting personal financial planning and encouraging Bruneians to save and invest for the future through our newly established wealth management unit.” Baiduri Bank is now offering two mutual funds, namely the SGAM Bonus Builder Fund and the SGAM Singapore Dividend Growth Fund. It also offers a structured deposit, the Baiduri Twin Currency Deposit, and AIA endowment plans under its wealth management unit.

“Internally, we want to ensure a high degree of professionalism and financial proficiency among our staff members, in particular those who offer wealth management products to our customers,” said Mr Imhof.

“To take this a step further, we introduced the Certificate in Financial Planning programme in August this year. This is part of Baiduri Bank’s ongoing effort to enhance the skills and competencies of our staff members. It is also in line with the new requirement mandated by the Brunei International Financial Centre (BIFC), which stipulates that only qualified staff members are permitted to offer mutual funds to customers.

” Mr Imhof also added that through this programme, Baiduri Bank staff will develop expertise and confidence in key aspects of wealth management and financial planning. The programme will also form an integral part of Baiduri Bank’s comprehensive training curriculum for staff members who are involved in offering investment products to its customers.

The Certificate in Financial Planning programme paves the way to the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) qualification, which has been awarded to more than 40,000 professionals worldwide. This is the most extensive education available for a professional designation in financial consulting, providing the necessary knowledge for professionals to apply a comprehensive financial planning process to the full range of customer goals.

“We are fully supportive of our Personal Financial Planners who wish to pursue the Chartered Financial Consultant programme. We believe this will enable Baiduri Bank to offer a higher level of personalised service and sound financial guidance to our customers.

“This initiative is one of the many ways that Baiduri Bank Group, under the guidance of the Ministry of Finance, wishes to contribute to the strengthening of the financial sector in Brunei,” added Mr Imhof.

Ms Karine Kam, Executive Director and Ms Jennifer Tan, Senior Director of the Singapore College of Insurance presented the certificates to all participants.
