WESTERN UNION LAUNCHES DIRECT TO BANK MONEY TRANSFER SERVICE TO PHILLIPINES

28 February 2007

The Western Union® Company, a worldwide leader in money transfer services, today announced the launch of Western Union Direct to BankSM service to the Philippines, which allows senders to remit money directly to the recipient’s account at designated banks in the Philippines.

Customers can enjoy the new service by simply visiting any of the ten Western Union locations at Baiduri Bank and filling up the Direct to Bank form. Money will then be deposited to any of the participating banks accounts in the Philippines the next banking day.

The fee for this service is B$6 for any amount sent.

“The launch of the Direct to Bank service in Brunei is in response to the growing market demand for such service,” Mr. Sunil Balagopal, regional vice president, Western Union, South East Asia said. “Many migrants in the country need to send their hard-earned money home. The new service is yet another option Western Union provides to them for transferring money simple and fast."

There are a total of 80,000 migrants in Brunei, of which approximately 17,000 are Filipinos. They are primarily frontline staffs, professionals or domestic helpers1.

From now until March 31, 2007, customers can enjoy the Direct to Bank service at B$3, which is a 50% discount off the original price. The first 500 customers to use the D2B service will also receive a free gift during the promotional period. Customers have to quote “DTOBOFFER” while sending money to enjoy this offer.

In addition, the Western Union Gold CardSM holders can earn five points by sending money from Brunei. These points can be accumulated to redeem free gifts such as luggage bags, radio clocks, disposable cameras, electric torch-lights. Customers can apply for a Gold Card free of charge at any Baiduri Bank branch.

Western Union has offered money transfers in Brunei since 2001 with the launch of the Money in MinutesSM 2 service through which recipients can pick up their money within minutes after it is sent. Western Union began its collaboration with Baiduri Bank in 2005 and its services are available at all the ten branches including Kiarong, Kiulap, Kuala Belait, Serusop, Seria, Sengkurong, Supa Save Gadong, The Mall, Tutong and Yayasan. The Mall and Supa Save Gadong branches are open 7 days a week from 10am to 10pm for the added convenience of customers.

Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank said, “Baiduri Bank became part of a global network by offering money transfer services to Western Union customers. This cooperation has allowed us to better address the needs of the migrant community in Brunei. Now, with this latest offering, we are providing customers with even more choices and control in terms of sending and receiving money.”
