In celebration of the Lunar New Year for 2007, Baiduri Bank Group today hosted a Chinese New Year Dinner for its customers and business partners based in Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts. More than 1,100 invited guests attended the dinner held at Songket Ballroom, The Rizqun International Hotel, The Mall.

Guest of Honour at the event was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Awang Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs II.

In his welcoming speech, Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank, highlighted some of the major achievements of Baiduri Bank Group in 2006. For example, Baiduri Bank has officially launched its Wealth Management Unit with 25 qualified personal financial planners to provide financial planning and investment services to its customers. The Bank has also entered into a strategic partnership with American International Assurance Company, Limited (AIA), the leading life insurer in Southeast Asia, to offer life insurance and endowment plans.

In addition, Baiduri Bank launched its comprehensive SME Programme in September 2006, as a further demonstration of its commitment towards the SME sector in Brunei. Baiduri Bank is the first and only bank in Brunei to have launched the EMV merchant acquiring service. Following this initiative, the Bank also introduced the first Platinum Card based on cutting-edge EMV technology In December 2006.

Baiduri Bank Group has also seen remarkable achievements in 2006 for which the Group has received international recognition. In April 2006, Baiduri Finance, the 100% owned subsidiary of Baiduri Bank, received recertification in ISO 9001, and by far remains the only finance company in Brunei to have attained this recognition for quality and service. Added to that, Baiduri Bank was awarded Bank of the Year Brunei by London-based The Banker magazine for the fourth time in five years, a prestigious accolade that acknowledges banks for excellent financial performance, strong growth rates and strategic developments.

Commenting on the economic climate, Mr Imhof said, “In 2006, we have observed significant changes which totally reshaped the financial landscape in Brunei. The promulgation of the New Banking Act and the updating of the Finance Act paved the way for a modern and stronger financial sector in line with the best regulated neighbouring countries.

“Brunei is becoming more and more competitive and Baiduri Bank Group, which has built over the years its image of dynamism and innovation must anticipate market changes and clients’ expectations if it wants to remain leader in the banking industry,” said Mr Imhof.

Looking ahead, Mr Imhof said Baiduri Bank Group expected steady growth by consolidating its market leadership, particularly in car financing, card, corporate banking and SME banking businesses. Baiduri Bank Group also plans to expand its multi-channel distribution network for service delivery; to strengthen its foothold in the wealth management business, and to consider business development opportunities in the region, including the financing of large-scale projects leveraging on the expertise of its international strategic partners.

To further support the development of local communities, Baiduri Bank Group also provided financial assistance for underprivileged students from Chung Hwa Middle School, BSB, St. George’s School and St. Andrew’s School respectively. The donations were presented by Mr Pierre Imhof to Mdm Kho Guik Lan, Principal of Chung Hwa Middle School, BSB, Mrs Shanti Han, Acting Principal of St. George’s School and Mr Jacob Chin, Principal of St. Andrew’s School.

A series of entertaining programmes were lined-up for the evening. The guests were enthralled by the lively performances by local dance troupe Studio VC Jade. Other programme highlights included The Rena & Ricky Show comprising games, talk show and a repertoire of songs in Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese, Malay, Japanese and French, as well as captivating performances by Leonard Tan.

To add to the festive joy, a series of lucky draws were also held throughout the evening, with guests bringing home fabulous prizes including Ipod Nano, LG 3G mobile phones, Samsung Camcorders, Sony 6.0 MP cameras, Sony Handycam, flat screen and LCD TVs and the grand prize of a Sony 42” plasma TV.

A similar function was held yesterday (09 March 2007) at St. Michael’s Parish Hall, Seria, for customers and business associates based in Seria and Kuala Belait.
