Bandar Seri Begawan, 30 April 2008.  The very popular Baiduri Bank charity golf event is back!  And beginning this year, the event also has a new name, “The Baiduri Masters”. This annual event is organized by Baiduri Bank Group with the support of their strategic partners QAF Eurokars Sdn Bhd, QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, QAF Brunei, Ben Foods (B) Sdn Bhd, RBA Golf Club Sdn Bhd and media supporter Brunei Press Sdn Bhd.

A sponsorship signing ceremony for the hole-in-one prizes was held this morning at the QAF Motor Showroom in Beribi.  Dato Paduka Awang Chua Pheng Siong, General Manager of Business Development at QAF Brunei Sdn Bhd and Mr Roger Fletcher, General Manager of QAF Auto signed on behalf of QAF Brunei while Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank, and Mr Andrew Young, Deputy General Manager Operations of Baiduri Bank and Chairman of the Organizing Committee signed on behalf of Baiduri Bank Group.

Also present at the ceremony were Mr Ti Eng Hui, Deputy General Manager Retail Banking and Branch Network of Baiduri Bank; Haji Haliluddin Bin Dato Haji Talib, General Manager of Baiduri Finance Berhad; Mr Reggie See, General Manager of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd, Mr K Y Lim, General Manager of Ben Foods (B) Sdn Bhd, as well as other senior managers and executive from Baiduri Bank Group and its strategic partners.  

Proceeds from the charity golf tournament will be channeled to a number of local charities and welfare bodies that provide help and support for individuals with special needs.  From the proceeds of last year’s event, a total of BND 66,000 was donated to several charities: to SMARTER to cover the salary of a physiotherapist; to Pusat Ehsan to cover salaries of the teachers; to the Child Development Centre for the set up of the sensory integration and audio visual rooms, books for feeding clinic, wheelchairs, commodes, chest walkers and stroller buggies; and to the Special Education Section of the Ministry of Education, the donation of 10 units of specially designed PCs for the blind.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank said, “The joining together of sport and charity is a formidable way of allowing all of us to participate in a worthy cause.  Through our contributions, we are able to elevate the lives of many in a significant way.”  “We hope more golfers will join us this weekend and next and contribute towards making a difference in our community”, he added.

The charity event, now in its thirteenth year, will be held at RBA Golf Club, Berakas over two weekends, from 3rd to 4th May and from 9th to 11th May 2008.  Participating golfers stand a chance to win five luxury cars put up as hole-in-one prizes:  Porsche Cayman S, BMW 730Li, BMWX3, BMW523iA and BMW 320 Executive.  In addition, there will be novelty prizes for nearest to pin at all Par 3 over the five day event, as well as attractive charity draw prizes.

Last year’s event saw a record number of participants in any golf event in Brunei with more than 600 golfers participating over a 3-day period.  In response to last year’s overwhelming response, the organizers have expanded the duration of this coming tournament to five days over two weekends in order to give more enthusiasts a chance to participate.

This coming tournament is divided into three divisions: Men’s, Ladies’ and Juniors’. The Men’s division is further divided into Men’s Open and Senior Golfers categories. The Junior Golfers category is open to golfers below the age of 18.  Registration fee is BND120 for adult golfers and BND60.00 for junior golfers.  The registration fee is inclusive of green fee, buggy fee, buffet breakfast and lunch.  The deadline for registration for this weekend’s tournament is 1st May, while the closing date for next weekend’s tournament is 7th May. 

Prizes will be present at the Closing Ceremony to be held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of RBA Sports Club on Sunday, 11th May, in the afternoon.
