Bandar Seri Begawan, 01 March 2008.   In celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year for 2008, Baiduri Bank Group today hosted a sumptuous dinner for its customers and business partners based in Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts. The event was held at the Songket Ballroom, The Rizqun International Hotel, The Mall, Gadong and more than 1,000 guests attended.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Awang Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, was Guest of Honour at the event.

Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank then gave the welcome address.  He highlighted the major achievements and progress of Baiduri Bank Group during the past year.

2007 saw the launching of several new products and services, the opening of a new branch and the relocations of two branches to cater for the growing needs of customers.

Under Wealth Management, the Bank introduced its first Certificate of Deposit, held the first Baiduri Expo 2007 centred on financial planning, and opened the new Wealth Management Centre in Kiulap.  A second group of 14 employees graduated with the Certificate in Financial Planning, bringing to 37 the total number of financial planners in the Bank.

Living up to its name as the market leader in automobile financing, Baiduri Finance implemented an on-line Enhanced Hire Purchase Delivery System, which reduced drastically the processing time for hire purchase approvals as well as payments to motor dealers, creating a win-win-win for Baiduri Finance, automobile buyers and dealers.
The Bank’s Credit Administration Department was certified ISO 9001 in November.  This represents an important step toward better and more efficient service to our customers.
Mr Imhof also touched on the Group’s financial results last year.  Excellent performance was seen in all its business segments resulting in excellent results. Total assets now stands at B$2.5 billion, ranking Baiduri Bank Group among the top banks in Brunei Darussalam.

As good corporate citizens, Baiduri Bank Group has been regularly supporting local charities. Among the organizations and events that have benefited from Baiduri Bank’s corporate social responsibility programme last year were Pusat Ehsan, Child Development Centre, SMARTER, World Blood Donor Day  and Universal Children’s Day.

Mr Imhof then announced that Baiduri Bank has yesterday received a Special Citation for Mobile Payment at the 3rd Financial Insights Innovation Awards held in Singapore.  The citation was for FAST, a revolutionary mobile payment service introduced last October.  Last December, Baiduri Bank won the Bank of the Year Award for Brunei from the Banker Magazine, UK for the fifth time in six years.

“Winning international recognition proves, once again, that Baiduri Bank is continually improving its products and services to serve its customers and the Bruneian community”, said Mr Imhof.

Looking ahead, Mr Imhof said, “We are excited about our future.  And in line with solid progresses made, Baiduri Bank shall be focusing more on organizational and product development in order to stay relevant in today’s competitive financial services industry”.

“The Banking Act 2006 and the Finance Act have helped paved the way for a solid future for the financial sector.  Together with the recently released Brunei Darussalam Long-Term Development Plan spanning the next three decades till year 2035, the economic future of Brunei looks promising indeed”, Mr Imhof added.

At the dinner, three schools in the Brunei-Muara District received donations from Baiduri Bank. The donations were presented by Mr Imhof to the principals of the schools.  They were Madam Kho Guik Lan of Chung Hwa Middle School, Ms. Jane Keasberry of St. Andrew’s School and Ms. Shanti Han of St. George’s School.  The donations were to assist in financing the education of a total of seven students from underprivileged families.

The evening’s programme was filled with entertainment provided by local and foreign artists and dancers.  Teenage local singing idol, Maria, winner of the Pelangi Award 2007 for “Artist of the Year” and “Top Female Vocalist”, captivated the audience with her rendition of popular Chinese, English and Malay numbers.  The audience was enthralled by performance by two well-known artists from Malaysia, Douglas Lim and Joanne Kam Po Po with their combination of comedy, songs and dances in Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese, Malay and English.

A similar function was held yesterday at the Chung Hwa Middle School Auditorium, Kuala Belait for customers and business associates based in Seria and Kuala Belait.
