5 May 2008
Bandar Seri Begawan, 05 May 2008.  On the second day of the Baiduri Master’s Charity Golf Event held at the RBA Golf Club yesterday, Elyas Abdullah Tseu made history by landing a hole-in-one at Hole No. 2 and is now in line to claim ownership to one of the super hole-in-one prizes, a BMW 730Li, valued at BND 165,000.  This is the first time in the event’s thirteen year history that a hole-in-one has been won.

A hole-in-one prize works on the premise that if there is more than one winner, the prize will be share among all the winners.  As such, Elyas will have to wait till the end of the tournament this Sunday to know if he is the outright winner of the BMW 730Li.  Stories abound about hole-in-one misses including at Hole No. 12 (2-3 inches away from the cup) and Hole No. 14 (the ball struck the flag stick).  Elyas hit his 7 iron which landed in front of the hole, rolled and hit the flag stick and dropped into the cup.

The overall results from last weekend are:

Men’s Division A – Leading in this Division is Suhaimi Hj Ibrahim, who carded a 2-under par 69 to claim the top spot followed by Hj Awang Hj Tuah and Hj Omar Hj Asmat.

Men’s Division B – Toh Keng Seng is in the lead followed by Hj Amir Hj Osman and Hj Musa Hj Suhaili.

Men’s Division C – Pg Musa Pg Mohd Jaafar is leading followed by Malai Hamir Hj Malai Mashor and Mohd Shah Ahmad.

Men’s Division D – The leader is Hj Azman Hj Osman, followed by Pg Anak Hj Mohd Basheer and Ahmad Azam Ahmad Zaini.

Senior Category leader went to Yong Yin Chong, followed by Hj Md Roger Abdullah and Hj Husin Metassan.

Nora Pui is currently leading the Ladies Category carding a gross of 79 while Mohd Haziq Hj Yahya leads in the Junior Category.A total of 168 golfers participated last weekend. The tournament continues next weekend over three days from 9th to 11th May, and is expected to be hotly contested. Registrations close on 7th May 2008.   The rush is on and the organizers are reporting numerous calls to register.  To avoid disappointment, golfers are advised to register early.

Aside from the BMW 730Li, which Elyas Abdullah already has one hand on,  there are four other luxury cars up for grabs as hole-in-one prizes: Porsche Cayman S, BMW X3 2.5Si, BMW 523iA and BMW 320 Executive.  In addition, there will be novelty prizes for nearest to pin at all Par 3 over the five day event, as well as attractive charity draw prizes including Plasma and LCD TVs.  Golfers need to be present to receive their lucky draw prizes.

The charity golf event is organized annually by Baiduri Bank Group with the support of their strategic partners QAF Eurokars Sdn Bhd, QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, QAF Brunei, Ben Foods (B) Sdn Bhd, RBA Golf Club Sdn Bhd and media supporter Brunei Press Sdn Bhd.  This year, the tournament is re-branded as “The Baiduri Masters – Your Charity Golf Event” to continue highlighting and promoting the enjoyable game of golf and charity.  In line with the re-branding a new challenge trophy was introduced.

Proceeds from the tournament will be channeled to a number of local charities and welfare bodies that provide help and support for individuals with special needs.  From last year’s event, a total of BND 66,000 was donated from the proceeds.
