Bandar Seri Begawan, Saturday, 8th November 2008.   As an annual tradition, Baiduri Bank Group hosted a sumptuous Deepavali dinner for its Indian customers and business associates at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom, The Empire Hotel & Country Club today.

His Excellency, Mr Riewad V. The evening began with the Light Ceremony.  Accompanied by Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager and Mr Raymond Bariou, Senior Deputy General Manager of Baiduri Bank and Dr. P. He highlighted some of Baiduri Bank’s major achievements over the past 12 months.

Touching on the current global financial situation and Baiduri Bank Group’s expectations for next year, Mr Imhof said, “Amid the current financial situation, there is good news. Baiduri Bank’s foreign shareholder BNP Paribas has emerged as one of the least affected and one of the strongest banks in the world.”

“Baiduri Bank Group’s activities, which are essentially domestic, have been doing well this year in spite of the turmoil, thanks to the stable economic environment in Brunei and high oil prices.”

“We expect next year to be challenging but promising, where opportunities will arise from the diversification of the local economy and infrastructure investments, but within a global context which will remain extremely difficult for some time to come.”

Guests were entertained during the evening with a variety of performances which included classical and Hindi cinematic dance by the Bandar Seri Begawan Indian Association, dances by the Rhythm and Soul Fitness Studio, and a guest performer from Malaysia, Mohd Zakry Kamal Bin MD Kamal, popularly known as “Zak Papi”.

In support of promoting cultural awareness among the various ethnic groups, Baiduri Bank Group made a donation to the BSB Indian Association during the Dinner.  The cheque was presented by Mr Pierre Imhof to Dr Sundrapandi, President of the BSB Indian Association.
