BAIDURI BANK TREATS CUSTOMERS TO CHINESE NEW YEAR DINNER
28 February 2009

Bandar Seri Begawan - A day after hosting a similar dinner in Kuala Belait, Baiduri Bank Group today hosted a sumptuous dinner for its customers and business partners based in Bandar Seri Begawan and Tutong.

The event was held at the Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong and was attended by some 1,000 guests who included prominent businessmen, senior officials from the Government and private sectors and merchants.

Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank gave the welcome address during which he highlighted the major progress and achievement of Baiduri Bank Group during the past year.

2008 saw the upgrading of facilities to serve customers better.  This included moving Baiduri Finance to new premises and the opening of the Bank’s 12th branch in Beribi, and the the official opening of the Business Services Centre and Data Centre in Kiarong.  The Bank’s Seria branch will soon be relocating to new and larger premises with improved facilities, which includes a Prestige Centre on its first floor.

Baiduri Bank ended 2008 by winning the "Bank of the Year 2008" for Brunei awarded by the Banker Magazine, UK. for the sixth time.  Mr Imhof was quick to thank the bank’s customers, partners and associates for their support which enabled the bank to win the award again and again and said reassuringly, "We know also that we are far from being perfect but rest assured that we shall maintain our efforts to continuously improve our service quality".

Earlier in his speech, Mr Imhof touched on the global economic situation and how it has impacted Brunei to a lesser extent mainly due to the huge drop in oil prices.

Despite the economic situation, Baiduri Bank Group was still able to grow its business and achieved satisfactory net profit.  Both Baiduri Bank and Baiduri Finance performed better in 2008 than in 2007 in terms of net income and net profit after tax.

Having been in operation for almost 15 years, Baiduri Bank now boasts a network of 12 branches and Baiduri Finance having 2 branches.  It also has an extensive network of ATM/CDMs throughout Brunei.  Starting off with just 12 staff in 1994, the total staff force is now around 500.

Looking ahead, Mr Imhof said, "This year, we will continue focusing on upgrading premises and facilities as part of our ongoing large-scale improvement project."  Among the projects he mentioned was the continued employment of new techniques to be more customer and process focused in line with the highest and most modern standards, and with specific effort in the area of IT.  Also included in this year’s plan is the enhancement of product range to make them more adapted to the needs and expectations of customers.

Three schools from Bandar Seri Begawan received donation from Baiduri Bank to provide financial assistance to underprivileged students in their schools. The donations were presented by Mr Imhof and were received by the respective school principals: Madam Kho Guik Lan of Chung Hwa Middle School, Ms Jane Keasberry of St. Andrew's School and Mr Song Kin Fha of St. George’s School.

The audience was entertained throughout the night by performances by artists from Malaysia which included Dato Leonard Tan with their combination of comedy, songs and dances.

Also in attendance were Baiduri Bank’s Senior Deputy General Manager, Mr Raymond Bariou and senior executives of the Group.
