THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING FIRST AID & CPR

Bandar Seri Begawan, 12th April 2010. A certificate presentation ceremony was held today at Rizqun International Hotel to recognize the efforts of Baiduri Bank Group staff who participated in the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) provider course. The Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman, the Minister of Health in Brunei Darussalam.

In his welcome address, Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank, thanked the National Resuscitation Centre (NRC), Ministry of Health for the close working relationship in facilitating the course, which has helped to raise the knowledge and skills on Baiduri Bank staff in the important area of CPR.

“Medical emergencies can happen anywhere, be it at the work place, home or even on the road”, said Mr Imhof. “The ability to respond quickly and in the correct manner in the absence of professional medical personnel is of utmost importance to help the victim survive.”  “At Baiduri Bank, we believe in equipping our staff with proper training, and training that are provided by professionals.  We cover not only work related disciplines, but also areas for personal development such as CPR.  And naturally, having individuals with CPR qualifications working among us gives us a sense of comfort should a medical emergency does occur”.

As a mark of appreciation for the close working relationship between the Ministry of Health and the bank, Mr Pierre Imhof presented on behalf of Baiduri Bank, both Adult and Paediatrics advanced life mannequins for use in their life support training programmes.  The equipment were received by Yang Berhormat, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman, the Minister of Health who, in return, presented Baiduri Bank with a certificate of appreciation.

Yang Berhormat Pehin then presented certificates to Baiduri Bank Group employees who had undergone and completed the CPR course last year.  The event ended with a sketch presentation by Baiduri Bank Group staff.

Since 2006, a total of 176 Baiduri Bank Group staff members have undergone the CPR provider course. The course was organized jointly by the Training and Security Departments of Baiduri Bank and facilitated by course leaders from the NRC.

Also present at today’s event were Mr Raymond Bariou, Senior Deputy General Manager, Dr Hjh Lailawati bte Hj Jumat, Chairperson of the NRC and Director of hospitals, and senior executives and officials from Baiduri Bank Group and the Ministry of Health.
