Bandar Seri Begawan, 02 May 2010.  After two weekends of intense competition among players, the Baiduri Masters Charity Golf Event came to an end today with a new record set as having the largest participation in any golf event in the country.

The Prize Presentation Ceremony was held today at the Manggis Ballroom, Hua Ho Manggis Mall. In attendance was HRH Pengiran Muda Abdul Muqtadir, son of Baiduri Bank’s Chairperson, HRH Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah.  Other guests included cabinet ministers, members of foreign diplomatic missions, sponsors, golfers and senior officials of Baiduri Bank Group.

In his welcome address, Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank thanked all event partners, sponsors and participants for their contributions.  Speaking on the objective of Baiduri Masters, Mr Imhof said, “The main objective of Baiduri Masters’ is to raise funds for local charities that support people with special needs and promote activities that would help special people gain acceptance in the wider society.  It is with the generous contributions from everyone that special people in Brunei may be assured of that opportunity”.

The Baiduri Masters is acknowledged as the biggest and most prestigious golfing event in Brunei and this year marks the 15th year it has been held.  This year saw a new record number of 1067 registrations, breaking its own record last year of 971.

This time around, the organizers introduced two new features – the ‘cut’ for the top 20 golfers to challenge for the green jacket, and added Panaga Golf Club as a second venue. This is the first time a golf tournament was held simultaneously at two golf courses in Brunei.

From the tournament proceeds and as part of Baiduri’s charity contributions, Baiduri Bank Group donated B$60,000 to several charity and welfare organizations during the ceremony.

First on the recipient list was Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajah Maryam which received an amount of B$20,000 to help with the construction of a new classroom block at the Centre.  Hj Ahmad bin Hj Abd Rahman, Policy and Training Trustee of the Centre received the cheque on the Centre’s behalf.

A second cheque for B$20,000 was presented to SMARTER Brunei to help meet the cost of a new building in Jerudong for the association.  On hand to receive the cheque was Malai Haji Abdullah Bin Malai Haji Othman, President of SMARTER Brunei.
Three other establishments that support children with special needs were also presented with donations from Baiduri Bank Group. B$7,500 was presented to Learning Ladders Society and received by its President, Dr Sharina Binti Hj Yunus; B$7,500 to the Child Development Centre, RIPAS Hospital received by Pengiran Hartini Pg Hj Tahir and B$5,000 to the Special Education Unit, Ministry of Education which was received by Awang Bukit Bin Hidup.

All donations were presented by Mr Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank.

The Baiduri Masters is organized by Baiduri Bank Group, with the support of their event partners QAF Eurokars Sdn Bhd, QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, QAF Brunei, Ben Foods (B) Sdn Bhd, RBA Golf Club Sdn Bhd, Panaga Golf Club and Brunei Press Sdn Bhd. This year’s tournament featured an attractive array of hole-in-one prizes including: Porsche Cayman S, BMW530i, BMW 320i, BMWX1 2.0d and Land Rover Freelander 2.2d.

Prolific golfer Seruji Haji Setia emerged as the Baiduri Masters 2010 champion with 71 gross, with Mohammad Haris Hasim (73ocb) in second place, followed by Shahminan Haji Damit with 73 gross (3rd).  Dennis Koh Kheng Siang with 74 gross came in fourth and Richard Lau with 75 gross in fifth place.

YAM Pengiran Muda Abdul Muqtadir presented the challenge trophy to Seruji, while the green jacket was presented to him by Wan Man Wan Hil, last year’s champion of the Baiduri Masters. Seruji also won a night’s stay in a junior suite at the luxurious Empire Hotel and Country Club plus e-Club facilities for 2 persons. The 4 runners-up each received a one-night stay in a deluxe room for 2 persons at the same hotel.  Novelty prizes for nearest to pin at all Par 3 over the six day event as well as attractive charity draw prizes were also presented.
