BAIDURI BANK GROUP HOSTS MALAM SILATURRAHIM 2011
24th September 2011

Bandar Seri Begawan, 24 September 2011 – In the spirit of Silaturrahim, Baiduri Bank Group hosted a sit-down banquet for its customers and business associates at Indera Samudra, The Empire Hotel and Country Club last night.

The Guest of Honour for the event was the Chairperson of Baiduri Bank Group, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah Binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam. The evening was also graced by other members of the royal family.

Derived from the Arabic word, the theme of the night “Silaturrahim” means bonding or close ties. Besides it being an occasion to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan and of showing gratitude to Allah S.A.W., Hari Raya is also a time to strengthen the bond between Muslims and their families, relatives and friends.

Because of the significance of Silaturrahim, Baiduri Bank Group has adopted the connotation to tonight’s event, where the Bank Group and its valued customers and business associates come together in celebration of the bonds that they have fostered over the years.

The evening opened with the recital of Takbir Raya and a special pantun accompanied by the sounds of Malay traditional instruments – the Beduk and the seluring, and performances by Batavia dancers together with local children dancers. This was followed by a video presentation showcasing the many activities and events that Baiduri Bank Group has organized throughout the year.

In his welcoming address, Mr. Pierre Imhof, General Manager of Baiduri Bank on behalf of the group expressed his appreciation to the guests for their support during the past year and outlined the major progresses and achievements of the Baiduri Bank Group during the last year.

Mr. Imhof then elaborated on the Bank’s ongoing improvement programs to further enhance its products and services to its customers. These included technological and product innovation like the ATM facilities (enhanced a few months ago) and building a more secured banking environment by way of the Baiduri UnionPay Debit Card that boasted the first PIN-based secured card in Brunei.

Tokens of appreciation were presented to Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah by 5 organizations that have significantly benefited from Baiduri Bank Group’s charity programmes, namely Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al Hajjah Maryam, Child Development Centre, SMARTER Brunei, Learning Ladder Society, and RIPAS Paediatric Haemoto-Oncology Centre. Mr. Imhof also presented a token of appreciation to Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah.

While guests were savouring the scrumptious dishes served during the night, they were also entertained by performances from international and local artists. Sri Nazrina Hj Johari and Eqah, both local artists, kept the crowd captivated throughout the night.

The highlight of the evening was the performance by Melly Goeslaw, a well-known Indonesian singer and songwriter whose career spanned over 23 years. Two of her songs – “Salah” and “Bunda” were selected by Rolling Stone Indonesia as some of the best Indonesian songs of all time, while her work with the Indonesian film called Ada Apa Dengan Cinta garnered her a Citra Award at the 2004 Indonesian Film Festival.

With a magnificent group performance by all the artists and dancers and the announcement of the grand lucky draw prizes ended the night with a big bang. More than 1,500 guests attended the event, including cabinet ministers, senior government officials and prominent local business leaders and professionals.
