BAIDURI FINANCE TO LEAD MONTH LONG ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Bandar Seri Begawan, 28 September 2012 - In response to His Majesty’s National Day Titah this year highlighting the worrying trend of road accident fatalities in the country, Baiduri Finance has entered into collaboration with the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) as the lead campaigner in a one-month long programme aimed at raising road safety awareness. The campaign is being held in conjunction with the Road Accident Victims Remembrance Day which falls on November 18th this year.

To seal this partnership, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two parties in an event held at the Radisson Hotel this morning. In the MOU, both parties pledged to work together to organize activities to further the cause over a one month period, working hand-in-hand with other stakeholders in the automobile and insurance industries. The NRSC role will be as the lead facilitator while Baiduri Finance will be the lead organizer and lead campaigner. Co-campaigners include the Brunei Automobile Traders Association (PPAB), the General Insurance Association of Brunei (GIAB), Takaful Brunei Am Sdn Bhd, Insurans Islam TAIB Sdn Bhd, the Red Crescent Society and the Co-Curriculum Department of the Ministry of Education. The exclusive print media partner is Brunei Press, while online media partner is Ranoadidas.com.

The Campaign will run for a period of one moth starting from 18 October 2012 with a series of activities to be held at various locations within Brunei, and via print and social media. The campaign will culminate in a grand finale “Remembrance Day Walkabout” at the Jerudong Park Playground on Sunday, 18th November 2012.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Alaihuddin bin POKDGSLDSU Hj Awang Mohamad Taha, in his capacity as Chairman of the NRSC signed on behalf of the the organization, while Mr Pierre Imhof, a director of Baiduri Finance signed on the company’s behalf. Awang Hj Joharry bin Haj Abdul Karim, Head of Road Safety Unit, Ministry of Communications and Awang Hj Haliluddin Bin Dato Paduka Hj Talib, General Manager of Baiduri Finance signed as witnesses.

The event also saw the signing of a second set of MOU between Baiduri Finance as the Lead Campaigner, the four co-campaigners and the two media partners outlining their commitment to the campaign.

After signing the MOU, each signatory also put their signature on a giant pledge card sealing their commitment to accept road safety as their responsibility.

Mr Pierre Imhof, Baiduri Finance’s director thanked the partners for their support. He said, “In Baiduri, we always believe in giving back to society. As the leader in automobile financing in Brunei, we have taken the challenge to lead this campaign to spread the message of the importance of road safety.”

Hj Haliluddin, General Manager of Baiduri Finance, in his capacity as the chairman of the organizing committee, said, “We are in the midst of finalizing the programme. It will be an exciting series of activities spanning over one month targeted at the various age groups. There will be messages posted on buses, in cinemas over radio, in the papers, in websites and over social media; there will also be drawing and colouring competition on the campaign theme as well as debating contest among tertiary education institution. I believe this is the first time in Brunei that a road safety campaign involving the various stakeholders from both public and private sectors working together on a common agenda and I am thankful to all our partners for the support given”.

Besides the above activities, each campaigner will also hold activities at their own premises to reinforce the message. The programme will culminate in a fun-filled walk and search event around Jerudong Park on 18th November.
