Bandar Seri Begawan, 1st April 2013 - For their generous contributions towards the development of children with special needs, Baiduri Bank, together with a group of seven organisations and individuals were celebrated today in an appreciation ceremony organised by The Child Development Centre (CDC) under the Ministry of Health.

The appreciation ceremony sought to acknowledge the contributions and sponsorships from various organisations as well as generous individuals working towards helping the plight of children with special needs.

Baiduri Bank is incremental in their contribution of a programme called "EarlyBird" designated for parents whose three to five-year-old children were suffering from autism.

Introduced by the National Autistic Society United Kingdom, this evidence-based intervention programme is beneficial to parents with autistic children as it provides them with in-depth psychological understanding of autism.

"Since 2011, 35 parents have completed their three-month-course and another eight parents are currently taking part in the programme," said Dr Hjh Mawarni.

The word "Plus" indicates that parents work hand-in-hand with teachers of the autistic children. Baiduri Bank Group contributed reference books for parents that would help accelerate the EarlyBird Plus programme.

"A meeting dedicated to the mechanics of the programme was conducted on March 28 this year," explained Dr Hjh Mawarni, saying that six groups of parents and teachers attended the session in which three of the groups had already signed up for the EarlyBird Plus programme.

The event was followed by a short certificate presentation to sponsors.

Mr Andrew Young, DGM Operations of Baiduri Bank received the certificate of appreciation from the guest of honour, Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hj Abd Jalil Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Health. Also present was Ms Dorothy Newn, Manager at the Corporate Communications and Marketing Department.

The ceremony took place at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Hajah Anak Saleha Sports Complex.
