Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st December 2013 – In line with Baiduri Bank Group's initiative to provide an effective emergency response plan, a second fire drill was held this week, this time, at the Baiduri Finance Head Office at Sumbangsih Bahagia, Beribi. More than a hundred of the Baiduri Finance customers and employees were successfully evacuated in a calm and orderly manner and assembled in designated assembly areas.

The Fire and Rescue Department received a call at around 10:15 am and quickly deployed a team from the Beribi Fire Station to the site. Billows of smoke were seen coming from one of the windows on the second floor of the office block, followed by the sound of continuous ringing of the fire alarm. A group of Baiduri Finance personnel who had previously undergone training and are certified as Fire Marshalls by the Fire and Rescue Department were on hand to direct the evacuation of personnel from the building. Within minutes, four fire engines arrived at the scene. Police personnel and paramedics from RIPAS Hospital also arrived to provide assistance.

During the mock exercise, one death and four other casualties were included in the scenario. Those injured supposedly sustained burns and a broken leg. One of the injured was a pregnant woman. They were taken to a temporary medical tent set up nearby for treatment.

This morning's fire drill was a joint exercise between Baiduri Finance, the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Brunei Police Force and the Emergency and Ambulance Services (EMAS) of RIPAS Hospital. Earlier this week, a similar exercise was also conducted at the Baiduri Bank Head Office in Kiarong.

Mr Yong Chee Chang, the Deputy General Manager of Baiduri Finance who was on hand to witness the exercise said, "As a premise always full of customers, we conduct regular emergency drills in order to instill a culture of safety and security should an unforeseen event happens. Staff members are trained to take appropriate action to safeguard against loss to lives and property prior to professional help arriving. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department and the other agencies involved for their collaboration in making this exercise a success'.
