Bandar Seri Begawan, 09 June 2013 – After two weekends of intense competition among golfer, the Baiduri Masters 2013 Charity Golf Event came to an end today with a record-breaking 1087 participants.

The Baiduri Masters 2013, organized by Baiduri Bank Group with the support of event partners – QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, QAF Eurokars Sdn Bhd, QAF Brunei, RBA Golf Club Sdn Bhd, and Brunei Press Sdn Bhd, is acknowledged as the biggest and most prestigious golfing event in Brunei and this year marked the 18th year it has been held.  It also featured attractive hole-in-one prizes consisting of the Porsche Panamera, BMW 520, Mini Cooper S Countryman and two cash prizes of B$20,000 each.

A Prize Presentation Ceremony was held later this evening at the Berkshire Hall, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club where the championship trophy, green jacket and other novelty prizes were presented to participants.

In attendance was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Mu’min, son of Baiduri Bank’s Chairperson, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah.  Other guests included cabinet ministers, members of foreign diplomatic missions, sponsors, golfers and senior officials of Baiduri Bank Group were present at the event.

In his welcome address, Mr. Pierre Imhof, CEO of Baiduri Bank thanked all event partners, sponsors and participants for their contributions.  Speaking on the objective of Baiduri Masters, Mr. Imhof said, “As always, the Baiduri Masters’ primary aim is to raise funds for local charities, specifically, those that support people with special need; and to promote activities that would help special people gain acceptance in the wider society.”

“And, because of the tremendous response from golfers this year, we have been able to increase the amount collected and we shall this evening, be handing over donations to several charity and welfare organizations that support special people,” continues Mr. Imhof.

From the tournament proceeds and as part of Baiduri’s charity contributions, Baiduri Bank Group donated B$90,000 to several charity and welfare organizations during the ceremony.

The first cheque for B$10,000 was presented to Child Development Centre, Ministry of Health and received by Dr. Mawarni binti Hj Abd Hamid, Consultant Paediatricians, Child Development Centre.

This was followed by the second cheque for B$10,000 that was presented to Yayasan Kanser Kanak-Kanak (YASKA) and received by Tsara’ Nawwarah Abdullah Chen, Treasurer YASKA.

Learning Ladders Society was presented with a cheque for B$10,000 and received by Dato Paduka Hj Abd Rahman Mohiddin, Chairman, Board of Trustees to Learning Ladders.

While SMARTER was presented with a cheque for B$30,000 and received by Malai Hj Abdullah bin Malai Hj Othman, President SMARTER.

Last but not least, a cheque for B$30,000 was presented to Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajah Maryam and received by Dato Paduka Dr. Hj Omar Khalid, Educational Trustee of Pusat Ehsan.

All donations were presented by Mr. Pierre Imhof, CEO of Baiduri Bank.

After all donations were handed out, the Baiduri Masters 2013 winner was officially announced at the Prize Presentation Ceremony. In spectacular style by birdeing the last hole of regulation to force play off and birdieng playoff hole to win, Khairul Kamis was crowned champion in this year’s charity golf tournament. This is the first time in Baiduri Masters history that a defending champion wins in succeeding two years; 2012 and 2013.

Presenting the title champion trophy to Khairul Kamis was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Mu’min, followed by the presentation of the coveted green jacket by Mr. Andrew Young, Chairman of Baiduri Masters.

Novelty prizes for nearest to pin at all Par 3 over the six day and attractive charity draw prizes were also presented at the event that evening. Results are as follows:

The event concluded with the presentation of the grand prize of a 5-day 4-nights exclusive golf package, courtesy of Tourism Malaysia. The package covers the winner and 3 accompanying persons and comprises one round of golf each the Mines Golf and Country Club and the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, plus accommodation at the Palace of Golden Horses Hotel and the Royale Chulan Hotel, green fees, buggy and caddy fees, daily breakfasts and transfers.
