FIVE CHARITY ORGANISATIONS BENEFIT FROM BAIDURI MASTERS 2014

Bandar Seri Begawan, 10 June 2014 – The 2014 Baiduri Masters came to an end on Sunday after two weekends of grueling competition which had attracted over 800 local and international golfers.

The Prize Presentation Ceremony, held at the Indah Hall of the Royal Brunei Recreation Club in Berakas, took place that evening where the Challenge Trophy, the coveted Green Jacket, novelty prizes and donations were presented to the winners and charities supported by the Baiduri Masters Charity Golf Event.

In attendance at the event was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Minister of Culture Youth and Sports as the Guest of Honour as well as the sponsors, golfers and senior officials of the Baiduri Bank Group.

Mr. Pierre Imhof, Chief Executive Officer of Baiduri Bank, in his welcoming address expressed his thanks to the Minister of Culture Youth and Sports for the ministry’s participation as the official supporter of the Baiduri Masters Charity Golf Event. Speaking on the aim of the golf event, "[our] primary aim is to raise funds for local charities, specifically those that support people with special needs. We also aim to promote activities that would help the special needs people gain acceptance in the wider society." He went on to state that it is only with the generous contributions from everyone involved, referring to the sponsors and golfers, that the less fortunate in Brunei are assured of that opportunity.

This year, the Baiduri Bank Group was able to donate B$70,000 to five charity and welfare organisations, namely the Child Development Centre, Ministry of Health; the Yayasan Kanser Kanak-Kanak (YASKA); Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al Hajjah Maryam; the Learning Ladders Society; and SMARTER Brunei.

The first charity to receive the donation amount of B$10,000 was the Child Development Centre, Ministry of Health, represented by Dayang Nurul Bazilah Binti Haji Ali.

The second cheque of B$10,000 was presented to Yayasan Kanser Kanak-Kanak (YASKA) and was received by Dayang Siti Zaleha Binti Haji Abdul Manaf.

This was followed by another donation of B$10,000 to the Learning Ladders Society represented by their President, Dr. Sharina binti Yunus.

The fourth cheque of B$20,000 was presented to SMARTER Brunei and was received by Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman, President of SMARTER Brunei.

And the fifth and final cheque was presented to Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al Hajjah Maryam. Receiving the cheque of B$20,000 on behalf of the organisation was its education trustee, Dato Paduka Dr. Haji Omar Khalid.

All the donations were presented by Mr. Pierre Imhof, CEO of Baiduri Bank.

The Baiduri Masters is an annual charity golf tournament organised by the Baiduri Bank Group and this year is supported by the Ministry of Culture youth and Sports, the QAF Group of Companies as well as Brunei Press as the exclusive print media partner. Since its inception in 1995, the competition has been raising funds for local charities that support and help people with special needs and promote activities that help people with special needs to integrate into society.
