Bandar Seri Begawan, Thursday 20 November 2014 – Baiduri Bank staff in Kiarong Complex were prompted to assemble at the designated assembly area across the street when the fire alarm was sounded at exactly 10:00 am today in a staged fire scenario.

Certified Fire Marshalls by the Fire and Rescue Department were on hand to direct the evacuation of both bank staff and bank customers from the building.

Billows of smoke were seen coming from one of the windows on the second floor of the office block, followed by the sound of continuous ringing of the fire alarm. The Fire and Rescue Department deployed a team from the Beribi station and within minutes, three fire engines and police personnel arrived at the scene. During the mock exercise, a few casualties were reported and taken to a temporary medical tent set up nearby for treatment.

The fire drill was a joint exercise between Baiduri Bank, the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Brunei Police Force and the Emergency and Ambulance Services (EMAS) of RIPAS Hospital. The purpose of the drill was to provide tactical experience, knowledge and training for the employees as well as empower them to calmly face and handle all circumstances that might arise during emergencies, especially a fire. The fire evacuation exercise also created awareness among the employees and the tenants on what to do before professional help arrives. The exercise was in line with Baiduri Bank Group's initiative to provide an effective emergency action plan under its Business Continuity Management.

Mr Pierre Imhof, the CEO as well as senior management personnel of Baiduri Bank were on hand to witness the exercise. He said, "At Baiduri Bank Group, we conduct regular emergency drills to ensure readiness should a crisis happen. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department and the other agencies involved for their collaboration in making this exercise a success".
