PEACE OF MIND FOR BAIDURI CARDHOLDERS WITH ADDED ONLINE SHOPPING SECURITY FEATURES

Bandar Seri Begawan, 29 January 2015 – Baiduri Bank has always been in the forefront of combating fraud and protecting its cardholders.

In 2006 it launched the first EMV chip card in Brunei Darussalam.  EMV chip technology is a global standard for credit and debit cards that will help increase security, reduce fraud and enable the use of future value-added applications.

In 2014, the Bank strengthened its security features by introducing the post transaction notification service, which informs cardholders every transaction made with their Baiduri-issued cards.  A text message will be sent to the cardholder’s registered mobile phone immediately when they use their Baiduri card for purchases, withdrawal or other transactions.

Starting 2nd February 2015, as part of the Bank’s ongoing initiative to provide better protection to its cardholders against potential online fraud, Baiduri Bank launched its Secure Online Payment Service (3D Secure) where all Baiduri Visa and MasterCard credit, debit and prepaid cardholders will be registered automatically with 3D Secure.

Baiduri 3D Secure is designed to make online shopping transactions safer by adding an additional step in the card verification process at time of purchase, through Verified by Visa (VCAS) or MasterCard SecureCode.

When a cardholder shops online and proceeds to the payment page, the usual prompt happens where the cardholder is required to key in the card number, card expiry and security number before confirming purchase.  

While the transaction is being processed, the additional security feature in the form of a One-Time-Password (OTP) will be sent to the cardholder’s registered mobile phone number via SMS. At the same time, a pop-up screen will appear on the online payment page asking to enter the OTP provided. This added step in the payment process will help to confirm that the person using the card is the genuine cardholder.

Mr. Pierre Imhof, CEO of Baiduri Bank said, “3D Secure is one method to combat fraud and help make online payments more secure. With this implementation, we hope to provide a high level of customer trust and confidence in online shopping, and at the same time reduce disputes and fraudulent card activities.”

“It is important that all Baiduri Visa and MasterCard cardholders update their main mobile phone number(s) immediately to avoid any inconvenience. If cardholders have supplementary cards under them, it is also important to update each supplementary cardholder’s mobile phone number(s),” added Pg Azaleen Pg Dato Hj Mustapha, Head of Retail Banking & Branch Network.

Since late last year, Baiduri Bank began informing cardholders by mail and SMS of this latest security feature, advising them to ensure that their mobile number lodged with the bank is always current to allow SMS and OTP notifications to reach them successfully.

Cardholders can update their contact details by completing the SMS Notification & OTP Mobile Number Update form obtainable from Baiduri website via www.baiduri.com.bn/secure_online_payment.htm and submitting the completed form to the nearest Baiduri Bank branch or email to [email protected]
