01st May 2015

Bandar Seri Begawan, 1 May 2015 – The 20th edition of the annual charity golf tournament organised by the Baiduri Bank Group, the Baiduri Masters, kicked off this morning in spectacular fashion. Today saw 105 golfers compete for a place in the final round set to take place next Sunday 10 May 2015. But the real highlight of the day was when Ahmad Izzat bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Zaimi, became the second golfer ever in the Baiduri Masters’ 20 year history, to land a hole-in-one. The lucky golfer sank a perfectly aimed shot at hole 2 just before 6:00 pm today to win the Porsche Panamera valued at B$175,800. 7 years ago, at the very same hole, Elyas Abdullah Tseu became the first ever Baiduri Masters golfer to land a hole-in-one where he drove away with a BMW 730Li.

A hole-in-one prize works on the premise that if there is more than one winner, the prize will be shared among the winners.  As such, Ahmad Izzat will have to wait until the end of the tournament next Sunday to know if he is the outright winner of the Porsche Panamera.  Ahmad Izzat, armed with his trusty TaylorMade R7 6 iron, struck his Titleist Pro-V Ball no. 2 which bounced on the green and rolled straight into the cup.

The first tee-off of the day started with Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi Haji Osman, Minister of Development. This was followed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, Pg Irwan bin Pg Haji Salleh Ab-Rahaman and Mr Andrew Young, President of the Organising Committee for the Baiduri Masters.
