| Bandar Seri Begawan, 2 April 2016. Baiduri Bank has been recognised by Global Finance as The World's Best Emerging Markets Banks in Asia-Pacific 2016 for Brunei. This marks the second time Baiduri has received this award, the first being in 2012. The award will be presented to Baiduri Bank at Global Finance's World's Best Banks 2016 Awards Ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on the 8th of October 2016.
The magazine's annual ranking of World's Best Banks has become one of the recognised and trusted standards of financial performance in the world for more than 20 years. Every year, Global Finance magazine names the World's Best Emerging Markets Banks in Asia-Pacific. Global Finance editors – with input from industry analysts, corporate executives and banking consultants – select the best emerging markets bank in the region and in 25 countries. Criteria for choosing the winners include growth in assets, profitability, strategic relationships, customer service, competitive pricing, and innovative products. Global Finance publisher and editorial director, Joseph D. Giarraputo, in a press release said, "The world's banks continue to deal with a number of headwinds including geopolitical risk, volatile economic and market conditions and still changing regulatory regimes." Speaking on this latest recognition, the first for the Bank in 2016, Mr. Pierre Imhof, CEO of Baiduri Bank said, "We are honoured to have been globally recognised as the best bank in Brunei by Global Finance. Winning this award is testimony of our commitment and capability to effectively leverage on our position as the leading conventional bank in Brunei. We will continue to deliver value to our customers and communities in Brunei." He further elaborated that as a bank in an emerging market, the challenges faced by banks in this market segment are different from other banks in more developed markets. He went on to say, "As evident by the increasing demand for financial products and for the development of capital markets, factors which are closely linked to economic growth, we believe that there are opportunities for growth in our country, and by extension, our region, despite the challenging business environment." This is the twenty-third year that the magazine has selected top banking performers in emerging markets. The survey awards winners in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. |
