Baiduri Bank Commits to Paperless Statements This Earth Hour
24th March 2018

24 March 2018, Bandar Seri Begawan – Earth Hour is once again upon us and as in previous years, Baiduri Bank Group joined the global community by switching off non-essential lights at its branches from 8:30pm to 9:30pm tonight. This year, other than taking a stand and switching off non-essential lights, Baiduri Bank is also going beyond the hour and converting all current account and savings account paper statements to e-statements.

Pg Azaleen Pg Dato Hj Mustapha, Head of Retail Banking and Branch Network, Baiduri Bank, commented, “Paper statements contributes to a big fraction of our carbon footprint, as we send out more than 1 million pages of paper statements every year to our valued customers. Conversion to e-statements is part of our commitment to reduce our environmental impact.”

Conversions began on 1 March 2018, and customers will receive their first e-statement at the end of this month. Customers have been responding positively when they first rolled it out, leaving positive comments of support on their social media channels, Facebook and Instagram. CEO of Baiduri Bank, Mr Pierre Imhof, spoke on the importance of Earth Hour and the Bank. "Earth Hour mobilizes Baiduri Bank and its subsidiaries to be a part of the global conversation.  It inspires us to create solutions needed to build a healthy, sustainable future. We hope to continue participating in this amazing and inherently important grassroots movement every year.”

Aside from switching off non-essential lights at their branches across Brunei, staff and family members of Baiduri Bank Group also joined the millions of people around the world in this World Wild Life Fund for Nature (WWF) initiative aimed at raising awareness of climate change and energy conservation, and switched off their lights and non-essential appliances, electronic appliances and gadgets at their homes to conserve energy.

Earth Hour provides an opportunity for organizations and individuals to think about their daily resource consumption and impacts on the environment as well as consider ongoing changes to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and improve their environmental performance. Baiduri Bank has been participating in Earth Hour for the past 8 years.
