The way forward is to go online!  We surf, chat, shop as well as bank online.  Unfortunately, this provides the opportunity for malicious activities such as;

  • Fraud
  • Theft
  • Scam

It is important to take precautions in order to protect you and your money to minimize these risks.  Below are some of the industry’s best practice tips;


Ensure that you have installed the latest anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewalls software on your computer and update them on a regular basis.
Ensure that you have the latest security updates and patches on your computer’s Operating System
Ensure that you update your browser to the latest versions
It is advisable to manually type in full website address on the search tab, otherwise save the correct address to your Favourite Websites list on your browser.
While conducting secure online transactions you should expect to see a Security Lock icon during authentication and encryption procedures
You should always log off and close the web browsers after you have submitted an application or concluded a secure online session.

Activate your Automatic Pop Up blocker and allow only trusted sites to allow Pop Ups
Turn on automatic updates of hot fixes and security patches on your browser
Turn off the computer or disconnect from the internet when not in use
Be mindful of nearby persons or "shoulder surfers" when using online banking security
Notify the Bank immediately of suspicious phone inquiries or emails such as those asking you to verify personal account information on the internet.


Do not install software or run programs of an unknown origin
Do not select the option on browsers for storing usernames and passwords
Never share your password with anyone
Do not open junk or chain emails, but delete them immediately
Do not open email attachments from unknown senders
Do not send sensitive account or personal information via regular emails or SMS
Do not respond to unsolicited emails from companies requesting for you to revalidate your personal information or that provides a link to websites that require you to revalidate your account information.  These links often lead to bogus websites that  look legitimate in order to fool you into providing sensitive information


  • Never disclose personal identification numbers (PIN), passwords, personal details and other confidential information to anyone.
  • PINs must ALWAYS be kept confidential and not be divulged to anyone.
  • PINs should be memorized and not recorded anywhere.
  • PINs should be changed regularly and it should not be based or related to user IDs, personal telephone numbers, birthdays or other personal information.
  • A good PIN should include a combination of alphanumeric characters. Sequential numbers or keyboard strokes are highly not recommended.
  • Create a PIN that is difficult to guess but easy to remember.
