BAIDURI BANK AND BEBD HOST 16TH MSME EMPOWERMENT SERIES WORKSHOP ON STRATEGIC MARKET EXPANSION
21 January 2025

Baiduri Bank, in collaboration with the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), successfully conducted the 16th edition of the MSME Empowerment Series, which featured a workshop titled "Conquer New Markets: A Deep Dive into Strategic Expansion for Your Business”. Held at the Baiduri Enterprise Hub, the workshop focused on guiding small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on the key steps for expanding into new markets. Around 35 local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) participated in the event.

“At Baiduri Bank, we always prioritise understanding our clients’ goals, challenges, and potential,” said Mohd Isa Liew Mohd Amin Liew, Head of Business Banking at Baiduri Bank. “As many of our clients are focused on growth and are actively looking to venture into new and competitive markets, we found it important to find meaningful industry experts to provide them with the skills and insights they need to succeed.”

The workshop was led by Kevin Legg, founder and managing partner of SAGE, a specialist in business development education with over 20 years of experience in workplace learning and business strategy. He introduced participants to strategies for entering new markets and highlighted the importance of consistent efforts from MSME leaders in implementing market entry plans effectively.

The workshop offered a comprehensive programme aimed at equipping participants with strategic insights and actionable support for market entry. It commenced with a focused training session last November where participants articulated their business objectives and crafted bespoke action plans aligned with their specific goals. Throughout the programme, participants benefited from on-demand coaching from the facilitator, who assisted them with real-time solutions to the emerging challenges that they experienced. Today was the follow-up coaching session, facilitating a thorough review of each participant’s progress, the resolution of their lingering obstacles, and the fine-tuning of strategies to drive sustained growth.

Among the participants, Dk Fatin Afiqah Pg Hj Tajudin, Founder and Florist at Fatin’s Florette commented, “This workshop helped me to understand new market opportunities and the tactics I need to consider when expanding beyond Brunei in order to produce beneficial and satisfying business outcomes.”

The Baiduri MSME Empowerment Series is a key component of Baiduri Bank's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts within the economic pillar, aiming to empower local MSMEs to thrive amidst changing market conditions by deepening their entrepreneurial skills and strategic insights.

Since its launch in 2019, the MSME Empowerment Series has been an integral part of Baiduri Bank’s efforts to support local businesses in building capacity and exploring growth opportunities.

BEDB has been a partner of Baiduri Bank’s MSME Empowerment Series since 2019, as part of its wider efforts to provide capacity building for local enterprises. To learn more about the support and programmes provided to MSMEs visit www.dare.gov.bn.
