Baiduri Bank Group held their annual blood donation drive in collaboration with The Blood Donation Centre of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital on Wednesday, 25 September 2024. The event took place at the Baiduri Community Space at the Baiduri Bank Headquarters.
More than 130 participants, including employees of Baiduri Bank Group and members of the public, came together to donate blood in support of replenishing the low blood supplies at the National Blood Bank in RIPAS Hospital. This initiative, organised as part of the Bank's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, has been held annually since 2009.
As in previous years, the blood donation drive was spearheaded by the apprentices from the Baiduri Bank Graduate Apprenticeship Programme (GAP), who began their six-month journey with the Bank in May. Under the mentorship of their colleagues, the apprentices were responsible for coordinating the event, working closely with RIPAS Hospital and event partners.
GAP is a comprehensive programme aimed at equipping fresh graduates with essential knowledge, skills, and practical experience to enhance their employability. Leading projects like the blood donation drive allows apprentices to apply their learning in a real-world setting, contributing to both their professional development and the community.
Apprentices Syahirah Malik and Haziqah Juffri led the initiative, emphasising that teamwork and collaboration were essential to the event’s success. Their ability to work closely with others helped ensure everything ran smoothly and contributed to an impactful blood donation drive.
Reflecting on the experience, Syahirah said, “This event has been truly rewarding for our team. I want to thank everyone who participated; your contributions have made a significant impact in our community. It was also a pleasure to support SMARTER Brunei by featuring their delicious cookies, which were well-received at the event.”
In addition to donating blood to help save lives, participants also underwent a brief health check, including assessments of vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, body temperature, and hemoglobin levels. These preliminary screenings can sometimes uncover underlying health conditions, offering an additional benefit to donors.
Veronica Chong, Head of Group Human Resources and Administration, was among those who donated blood. Commenting on the event, she said, “The turnout this year has been incredible. Both our employees and the public have shown unwavering support for this important cause. Blood donations are critical to maintaining adequate supplies for our hospitals, and events like this play a vital role in ensuring we meet that need.”
