BAIDURI BANK COLLABORATES WITH ROYAL BRUNEI POLICE FORCE ON SCAM AWARENESS
05 May 2026

Baiduri Bank recently conducted a scam awareness session for its employees at its headquarters, in collaboration with the Cybercrime Investigation Division of the Royal Brunei Police Force.

The session, organised as part of the Bank’s ongoing efforts to strengthen vigilance against financial crime, brought together more than 50 participants from across the organisation. It aimed to deepen staff understanding of evolving scam tactics affecting Brunei, while equipping them with the knowledge to identify warning signs and respond appropriately when customers may be at risk.

The session was led by Officers from the Cybercrime Investigation Division, Criminal Investigation Department, sharing insights on current scam trends, common techniques used by fraudsters, and practical steps individuals and organisations can take to safeguard themselves.

In his opening remarks, Jonathan Lim, Head of Group Risk Division at Baiduri Bank emphasised the importance of proactive awareness in today’s increasingly digital environment.

“Scams are becoming more sophisticated, often exploiting trust, urgency and digital channels. As a Bank, we have a responsibility not only to safeguard our systems, but also to equip our people with the awareness and confidence to protect our customers. This session is part of our broader commitment to strengthening our first line of defence against fraud,” he said.

The session provided an overview of the evolving fraud landscape, highlighting geographical trends, common scam types, and the latest statistical insights. It highlighted the most prevalent scam typologies, including impersonation scams, romance scams and investment-related scams, while drawing attention to emerging tactics used by the perpetrators.
Baiduri Bank continues to prioritise fraud prevention through a combination of technology, processes and ongoing education. Beyond internal initiatives, the Bank also encourages customers to remain vigilant, practise good digital hygiene, and promptly report any suspicious activity.

The Bank expressed its appreciation to the Royal Brunei Police Force for its continued collaboration in raising awareness and strengthening the collective response to scam-related threats in Brunei.
