In the final event of the ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ series, Baiduri Bank’s volunteers organised one last shopping trip to buy necessities for 10 underprivileged families in the Belait district.
This afternoon, the volunteers acted as ‘personal shoppers’ and helped to purchase the household items and necessities on behalf of the underprivileged families at Soon Lee Megamart Pandan, Kuala Belait.
The families in the Belait district were identified through the Impian Project, a non-profit organisation established to address social issues in Brunei by providing assistance to improve the welfare of the vulnerable and differently-abled in the country.
The annual ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ initiative aims to bring festive cheers to underprivileged families in the four districts by taking them shopping for household and basic necessities in preparation for Hari Raya.
In previous years, the Bank would organise a shopping activity and bring these families shopping and end the event by having iftar (breaking of the fast) together. Due to current restrictions, and for the safety and comfort of the families, the Bank’s volunteers acted as ‘personal shoppers’ and helped to purchase the household items and necessities on behalf of the underprivileged families.
Similar to last year, this year’s initiative is organised through ‘Baiduri Cares’, an internal programme where employees of Baiduri Bank and its subsidiaries are encouraged to invest their time, skills and efforts to give back to the community and make a positive impact on society by being directly involved in various volunteering activities.
Over the past week, more than 100 employees registered to take part in the initiative to provide underprivileged families with some peace of mind and joy as they prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya festivities.
Speaking on the culture of volunteerism, Veronica Chong, Head of Group Human Resources and Administration, Baiduri Bank said: “The ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ initiative is just one of the many volunteering events that the Bank offers, and through ‘Baiduri Cares’, our employees can come together and bring our brand values to life. With volunteering activities focused on our Corporate Social Responsibility pillars of Social, Economic and Environmental, we hope to empower them to make lasting and meaningful contributions to the communities we serve.
She added: “We are very pleased to see such great responses from our people in joining this initiative yearly and making a positive impact on society through the investment of their time, skills and efforts.”
Also present at the event were Yvonne Chan, Head of Group Asset Recovery Management and Ak Nor Muhammad Nizam bin Pg Hj Tengah, Head of Group Treasury and Institutional Banking.
