More than 10 Tutong-based families identified by the Council for the Welfare of Persons with Different Abilities (MKOKU) enjoyed an afternoon of shopping at Hua Ho Petani Mall and iftar in the evening as part of Baiduri Bank’s annual ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ initiative.
Present at the event from Baiduri Bank’s management committee was Chris Ang, Head of Group Finance Division, who said: “We’re fortunate to be able to extend a helping hand to the underserved and at risk communities every year, and spread some joy and kindness during this blessed season.”
“By listening to them and understanding their needs and priorities, we can learn how we can serve the community better and be more inclusive.”
Also present were Jonathan Lim, Head of Group Risk, Stephen Nelson, Head of Internal Audit, and Wan Ahadiatul Wan Silmy, Head of Group Compliance.
In the spirit of collaboration, the Bank has continued its partnership with Setia Motors, with Indera Motors joining as an additional logistics partner for the initiative, assisting in transporting families from their homes to the respective venues and back.
Ramli bin Ahad, Human Resource Manager at Setia Motors, said: “This is our second year of being involved in this initiative and it’s an event all our staff look forward to, as it is a blessing to be able to give back and be of service to our community.”
There are currently nine non-governmental organisations (NGOs) under the MKOKU – Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, The Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA), Paraplegic and Physically Handicapped Association (PAPDA), Society for Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER Brunei), Down Syndrome Association (ABLE), Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD), Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind (BDNAB), National Association for the Hearing-Impaired (OKP) and Learning Ladders Society (LLS).
As in previous years, the initiative is supported by volunteers from ‘Baiduri Cares’, an internal programme where employees from Baiduri Bank and its sister companies – Baiduri Finance and Baiduri Capital – can volunteer their time and energy to various activities.
