In the second event of the ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ series, Baiduri Bank’s volunteers organised a shopping excursion for 10 underprivileged families in the Tutong district.
The families in the Tutong district were identified through The Impian Project, a non-profit organisation established to address social issues in Brunei by providing assistance to improve the welfare of the vulnerable and differently-abled in the country. The ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ initiative aims to bring festive cheer to underprivileged families in the four districts by taking them shopping for household and basic necessities in preparation for Hari Raya.
In previous years, the Bank would organise a shopping activity and bring these families shopping and end the event by having iftar (breaking of the fast) together. Due to current restrictions, and for the safety and comfort of the families, the Bank’s volunteers acted as ‘personal shoppers’ and helped to purchase the household items and necessities on behalf of the underprivileged families.
Similar to last year, this year’s initiative is organised through ‘Baiduri Cares’, an internal programme where employees of Baiduri Bank and its subsidiaries are encouraged to invest their time, skills and efforts to give back to the community and make a positive impact on society by being directly involved in various volunteering activities.
This afternoon, the volunteers acted as ‘personal shoppers’ and helped to purchase the household items and necessities on behalf of the underprivileged families at Hua Ho, Petani Mall, Tutong.
Present to shop with the volunteers was Ti Eng Hui, Chief Executive Officer of Baiduri Bank, who said that initiatives like ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ provides an avenue for the Bank’s volunteers to be directly involved with efforts in making an impact on the local community, and also build lasting partnerships with local businesses and Non-Profit Organisations.
He said: “In the spirit of co-creation, we’ve partnered with The Impian Project to identify the families in need, and various restaurants to provide packed meals for these families to break their fast with. We’ve also engaged Dart Brunei to help deliver these items to the families at their homes. While we aren’t able to meet them personally, we hope that our humble contribution is able to help give them some peace of mind and joy as they prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya festivities.”
The Bank’s volunteers will conclude this year’s initiative by shopping for the families in Kuala Belait on Tuesday 26 April 2022.
Also present at the event were Leonard Lee, Head of Corporate Banking, Jonathan Lim, Head of Group Risk, and Ng Yick Wei, Head of Group Strategic Marketing and Communications Department at Baiduri Bank.
