07 November 2023

Baiduri Bank, in a collaborative effort with the High Commission of Canada, held an insightful Venture Capital (VC) Investing Talk at the Baiduri Enterprise Hub on the 7th of November. The event drew in entrepreneurs from across Baiduri Bank’s extensive network, Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) and Shell LiveWIRE Brunei, representing a broad array of industries ranging from services industry, education and media industry.

Mohd Isa Liew Mohd Amin Liew, Head of Business Banking at Baiduri Bank, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to building a knowledgeable and supportive business community. "At Baiduri Bank, we are committed to empower local businesses with the insights and connections necessary for their success. The session on VC today is one of many initiatives where we facilitate valuable conversations and provide a platform for entrepreneurs to flourish.”

The talk featured Tim Peters, a renowned expert in venture capital and an investor. Sharing on the dynamic world of venture capital investing in startups, he highlighted the importance of visionary leadership, innovative solutions, and market understanding. The discussions also explored the rewarding aspects of VC investments, including the potential for substantial returns and support for entrepreneurial innovation. Moreover, the session provided practical strategies for Bruneian businesses looking to overcome the hurdles of global market expansion, with real-world examples of local success stories.

“Access to venture capital is considered one of the most important drivers of innovation. Today's event truly highlights the interest from Canada's private sector in supporting innovative Bruneian MSMEs and reflects Canada's priority on developing deeper trade and investment partnerships in the Indo-Pacific. We also know that Brunei's recent ratification of the CPTPP and a future Canada-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement will support future collaboration, allowing Brunei and Canada to work together to develop innovative solutions to the world's problems while also supporting our mutual prosperity and economic growth,” shared Her Excellency, Ambra Dickie, High Commissioner of Canada in Brunei.

Apart from imparting and sharing of knowledge, the event helped to foster a dynamic networking environment that enabled Brunei’s entrepreneurs to establish and reinforce valuable connections.
