In its efforts to promote work-life balance and an overall healthier workforce, Baiduri Bank yesterday launched the Employee Wellness Initiative at Baiduri Community Space (BCS) located at its Headquarters, 1 Jalan Gadong.
The Initiative is held in collaboration with the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) at the Ministry of Health and aimed to encourage employees of the Bank and its subsidiary companies to take care of their physical health and mental wellbeing. The launch is the first of the Initiative’s two phases.
This initial phase will provide all Baiduri employees with a free basic health screening exercise conducted by doctors and nurses from the HPC. This will include checking their blood pressure, body mass index, blood sugar level and cholesterol level. Clinical psychologists, also from the HPC, will be on hand to promote the importance of caring for both their physical and mental wellbeing at home as well as in the office. During the launch, local vendors, such as Fuel’d and Iced Milo Cup Brunei (@icedmilocup.brunei) also sponsored food and drinks for Baiduri staff as well as staff from the HPC.
Along with the launch of the initiative, the Bank also introduced its very own Wellness Ambassadors – employees who are champions of advocating a wellness culture among their colleagues. These ambassadors will undergo training supported by the HPC aimed at equipping them with the knowledge and skills to promote living a healthier lifestyle.
The first phase of the Initiative will continue over the next few days at Baiduri Community Space, to allow employees based at various other locations to take advantage of the health screening. Employees in the Belait district will also have the chance of getting the same screening done at the Baiduri Bank Kuala Belait branch.
Meanwhile in the second phase, the Bank will be introducing more programmes in partnership with local health experts and organisations that are geared towards engaging its employees in group-based fitness games and activities. These will also include educational aspects such as health awareness campaigns, seminars and quizzes. The goal of the second phase is to build on existing after-work activities the Bank provides and continue to nurture camaraderie and teamwork among employees.
Mr Ti Eng Hui, the CEO of Baiduri Bank explained that the Employee Wellness Initiative recognises the need to promote a healthy well-being as it can have many benefits, including healthier and happier employees and lower absenteeism due to illness.”
He said: “Our success greatly depends on the productivity and performance of our employees. This ability to function and perform at a high level consistently hinges on having a workforce that is happy, healthy and resilient in both mind and body.
“With the Employee Wellness Initiative, we aim to provide the tools and platform to live a healthy life for everyone at Baiduri Bank Group. We are working towards a holistic approach to promote mental and emotional health along with financial wellbeing, in line with and supporting the Ministry of Health’s vision of ‘Together Towards a Healthy Nation’.”
