Baiduri Bank, in collaboration with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Brunei Climate Change Office (BCCO), both under the Prime Minister’s Office, hosted an Energy Efficiency Workshop at the Baiduri Enterprise Hub on 21 August 2025.
The workshop was organised to promote the Energy Efficiency Handbook recently published by the DOE, while providing participants with practical insights on adopting energy-efficient practices. It also served to raise awareness on climate action in line with the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP), which envisions the country’s transition towards a low carbon and climate-resilient future.
The full-day event was held in two sessions, a morning session for small and medium enterprises and an afternoon session for corporate clients. Close to 40 representatives from diverse sectors including oil and gas, maritime, agriculture, education and biodiversity took part. Participants were introduced to the principles of energy transition, energy saving initiatives and best practices in energy management, alongside discussions on Brunei’s renewable energy landscape.Climate awareness was also a key focus, covering Brunei Darussalam’s climate ambitions, the ten strategies under the BNCCP, including initiatives under Protokol Hijau, as well as the enablers needed for implementation such as financing, technology, and capacity building.
The workshop featured presentations from government representatives. Yang Mulia Zulfadli bin Abu Bakar, Head of Energy Efficiency & Conservation Unit, Energy Transition Division, Department of Energy, delivered a session on driving renewable and energy efficiency, while Yang Mulia Muhammad Zulhilmi bin Haji Amir Hamzah, Communications & International Lead at the Brunei Climate Change Office, spoke on Brunei Darussalam’s climate action. The day concluded with group discussions where participants shared ideas and explored practical measures relevant to their businesses.
Baiduri Bank’s participation in the workshop reflects its continued support of the national climate agenda, particularly the BNCCP’s vision of achieving net zero by 2050. Through its Baiduri Greenprint framework, the Bank has been embedding sustainability into its operations, with initiatives under its Planet pillar focused on sustainable financing, environmentally responsible practices and efforts to educate and empower clients on their own sustainability journeys.
Abigail Leong, Head of Sustainability at Baiduri Bank, said, “At Baiduri Bank, we see sustainability as a shared responsibility. This workshop reflects our commitment to creating platforms where businesses can learn and take practical steps towards energy efficiency. By fostering collective action, we are contributing to Brunei’s climate ambitions and helping to embed sustainable practices into everyday business decisions.”
