For the sixth year running, Baiduri Bank organised it’s annual ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ initiative – a series of events aimed at bringing festive cheers to underprivileged families in the four districts in preparation for Hari Raya.
In previous years, the Bank would organise a shopping activity and bring these families shopping and end the event by having iftar (breaking of the fast) together. Due to current restrictions, and for the safety and comfort of the families, the Bank’s volunteers acted as ‘personal shoppers’ and helped to purchase the household items and necessities on behalf of the underprivileged families.
Similar to last year, this year’s initiative is organised through ‘Baiduri Cares’, an internal programme where employees of Baiduri Bank and its subsidiaries are encouraged to invest their time, skills and efforts to give back to the community and make a positive impact on society by being directly involved in various volunteering activities.
Over the past two days, volunteers shopped for items from Sim Kim Huat (SKH), Sg. Hanching, for 20 families in the Brunei-Muara district and 10 families in the Temburong district. The Bank also continued its partnership with Dart Logistics, to help deliver these groceries as well as packed meals, for the families to break their fast with.
The families in were identified through The Impian Project, a non-profit organisation established to address social issues in Brunei by helping improve the welfare of the vulnerable and differently abled in the country.
Both partnerships are part of the Bank’s pledge to co-create with and support local entrepreneurship and businesses and giving back to the community.
Pg Azaleen PD Hj Mustapha, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Business Development, Baiduri Bank said, “While our annual ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ initiative is done differently this year, that has not dampened our spirits to give back to the community.
“Baiduri Cares provides a platform to engage, empower and mobilise our employees to make meaningful contributions to the communities we serve, and this initiative is part of that. We hope that even though we aren’t able to meet and interact with these underprivileged families personally, the time and effort from our volunteers to shop for their necessities will still be able to help lighten the burden for them and bring them some relief, especially with the upcoming Hari Raya festivities.”
Also present at the events were Chris Ang, Head of Group Finance Division, Lim Kian Chiong, Head of Retail Banking, Sim Kiem Lee, Head of Group Operations and Ng Yick Wei, Head of Group Strategic Marketing and Communications Department.
The Bank’s volunteers will next shop for families in Tutong on Monday, 25 April 2022 and lastly for the families in Kuala Belait on Tuesday 26 April 2022.
