Baiduri Bank has been recognised as a 3-Star Lister on the inaugural ESG Select List 2025, organised by the United Nations Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB), in acknowledgement of its consistent commitment to advancing sustainability across its operations and partnerships.
Baiduri Bank earned three stars under the following categories:
- ESG Trailblazer, for its role as sole financier of Brunei Darussalam’s first 30 megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant. This initiative supports Strategy 4 of the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy to increase the total share of renewable energy to at least 30% of total capacity in the generation mix by 2035;
- ESG Breakthrough Innovation, for the launch of Baiduri Tap2Pay, the country’s first Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled mobile payment solution designed to empower micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to meet the growing demand for contactless payment; and
- Purposeful Partnership, recognising the Bank’s sustained efforts in advancing MSME empowerment through strategic collaboration and capacity-building initiatives with the Brunei Economic Development Board, as well as national associations, such as Persekutuan Peniaga-Peniaga Melayu Brunei (Federation of Brunei Malay Entrepreneurs – PPPMB) and the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Brunei (YEAB). The Bank was also recognised for setting up the Baiduri Enterprise Hub as a dedicated space for business advisory sessions, capability-building activities and collaborative initiatives for deeper partnerships.
Under the ESG Select List framework, each category achieved contributes one star, representing excellence in a specific dimension of sustainability performance. These include areas such as purposeful partnerships, breakthrough innovation, workforce development, ESG target setting and holistic ESG integration. The total number of categories attained is reflected on an organisation’s official ESG Select List badge. Organisations may be recognised in up to five categories, with those achieving all five awarded the ESG Select List 5Star Badge, the programme’s highest distinction.
The recognition was formally presented by representatives from UNGCMYB, including Faroze Nadar, Executive Director, and Angeline Seah, Deputy Executive Director, to Ti Eng Hui, Chief Executive Officer of Baiduri Bank in the presence of Manuel Bulens, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Banking and Chairman of the Bank’s Sustainability Committee, as well as members of the Bank’s Management Committee and Sustainability Committee.
The ESG Select List recognises UNGCMYB Corporate Members that demonstrate sustained progress, transparency and innovation in embedding environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles within their workforce, operations and partnerships. Unlike competitive sustainability awards, the ESG Select List is a non-ranked recognition that highlights organisations advancing the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and contributing meaningfully to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Commenting on the recognition, Ti Eng Hui, said:
“We are honoured to be recognised on the inaugural ESG Select List. Sustainability at Baiduri Bank is embedded in how we invest, innovate and collaborate. From supporting renewable energy infrastructure to advancing digital solutions that empower MSMEs, our focus remains on creating long-term value for our stakeholders while contributing meaningfully to Brunei’s sustainable development.”
