Baiduri Bank Group celebrated the graduation of nine apprentices from the fifth cycle of its Graduate Apprenticeship Programme (GAP) at a ceremony held at the Baiduri Community Space, Baiduri Bank Headquarters. This milestone brings the total number of graduates to 57 since the programme’s inception in 2019.
During the ceremony, the apprentices delivered presentations reflecting on their growth and experiences throughout the programme, sharing how the initiative shaped their professional and personal development.
GAP is a six-month holistic learning and development initiative aimed at equipping recent graduates with essential knowledge, skills, and experience to enhance their employability in Brunei’s job market. Through structured rotations, mentorship, and real-world projects, participants gain exposure to diverse areas of banking and financial services.
Over the course of the programme, apprentices were placed in key areas across the Bank and its subsidiaries, including Group Treasury, Group Strategic Marketing & Communications, Group Compliance Department, Internal Audit, Credit Services Division at Baiduri Finance Berhad, Corporate Banking, Group Information & Technology Division, and Institutional Banking. This diverse exposure allowed participants to gain hands-on experience in critical functions, from risk and compliance to technology and client relationship management, equipping them with a holistic understanding of the financial services industry.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ti Eng Hui, CEO of Baiduri Bank, said: “The Graduate Apprenticeship Programme is a flagship initiative designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and the realities of the workplace. It offers graduates the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a dynamic environment, develop practical skills, and build the confidence to thrive in their careers.”
Beyond professional development, the apprentices played an active role in the Bank’s internal culture and community initiatives. They helped organise the annual blood donation drive, championed Movember awareness through the Employee Wellness Initiative, led engagement activities for the Baiduri Bank Recreation Club, and introduced a new ‘Mind the GAP’ column in the staff newsletter.
GAP has become a launchpad for young professionals eager to make their mark in Brunei’s financial sector. By combining structured learning with real-world exposure, the initiative empowers graduates to develop critical skills and confidence for the next stage of their careers. Alumni from previous cycles have gone on to secure permanent roles within the Bank Group, a testament to the programme’s role in shaping local talent to drive innovation and growth.
