In conjunction with World Investor Week 2025, Baiduri Capital, in collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Brunei Darussalam Capital Market Association (BCMA), and the Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB), officially launched the UBD Investment Challenge 2025 today at the Senate Room, Chancellor Hall, UBD.
The launch event was officiated by the guest of honour, Kamal Muhammad, Chairperson of the Brunei Darussalam Capital Market Association (BCMA). The event brought together student participants from UBD and UTB alongside faculty members from the UBD School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) and other institutions.
Challenge Overview
Running from 5 November 2025 to 2 February 2026, the UBD Investment Challenge invites teams of up to three students or recent alumni (graduating between 2023 and 2025) from UBD, UTB, or UNISSA to compete in a dynamic, hands-on investment simulation.
Each team is allocated SGD500,000 in virtual capital to trade across a diverse range of global markets, including the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and China A-shares via the Hong Kong Stock Connect.
A total of 20 teams will be competing for a BND3,500 cash prize pool, jointly sponsored by BCMA and BDCB, with performance assessed by portfolio growth, investment strategy and presentation quality.
A Strategic Partnership for Financial Education
The challenge is a direct outcome of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between UBD and Baiduri Capital in July 2025. It offers students and recent alumni a unique opportunity to explore real-world investing through Baiduri Invest’s virtual trading platform.
In his remarks, Brian Wong, General Manager of Baiduri Capital, said:
“This partnership allows us to create meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for the realities of investing in the capital markets. We’re proud to support initiatives that build financial confidence and career readiness among Brunei’s youth.”
The initiative is designed to ignite financial curiosity and equip Brunei’s youth with practical investing skills. It reflects a shared commitment to advancing financial literacy and career readiness in line with Wawasan Brunei 2035 and the Brunei Darussalam Financial Competency Framework.
Also in attendance during the launch event were representatives from Baiduri Capital, BCMA, BDCB and members of the university administration, reflecting a strong cross-sector commitment to nurturing Brunei’s future financial leaders.
