Baiduri Bank marked another milestone today as it held its ‘Baiduri in Temburong’ event to officially launch its very fist ATM in the district and the weekend’s Baiduri Lokal Market in Pekan Bangar today.
Yang Mulia Pengiran Mohammad Ameer Mubarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim, Acting Temburong District Officer, officiated the event as the guest of honour.
The launch of the Bank’s first ATM in the Temburong district is a symbol of the Bank’s commitment to better serve the financial needs of the residents in the district, as it now has a presence in all four districts and across all customer segments throughout the country. With the launch of this ATM in Temburong, the Bank now has a network of 59 ATMs and Cash Deposit Machines, including the first multi-currency ATM located at the Brunei International Airport.
The Bank’s ATM in Temburong is located at Bangunan Kedai Rakyat Jati Pekan Bangar and features services that include cash withdrawal, cash deposit, bill payments and prepaid top ups, amongst others. The ATM lobby makes use of wooden fixtures and features to be more eco-friendly, blending in seamlessly with the surrounding environment.
Punctuating the event was a donation of audio-visual equipment to upgrade the capabilities at Dewan Kemasyarakatan Belalong in Pekan Bangar. The donation is aimed at enhancing user experience at the hall and enabling a more diverse range of events to be held, such as town meetings, performances and regular gatherings involving the community.
As the event was themed around the Bank’s commitment to enrich, empower and engage the Temburong community, it also included the launch of the Baiduri Lokal Market, an eco-market that brings together small, local eco-conscious businesses to raise awareness on how to lead a more sustainable life.
Baiduri Lokal Market also provides a platform for local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to showcase their products and services to the Temburong residents. Popular local brands at the market include Eljumana, Aras Soaps, Shaliz Waste Recycling Sdn Bhd as well as local food and beverage vendors such as Pho Ngon Vietnamese Cuisine.
Members of the public can visit the market today and Sunday, 2 October 2022, from 10:00am to 5:30pm. They can expect vendors who focus on local produce, sustainable products, and on top of that, vendors will be using eco-friendly alternatives for packaging items.
Baiduri Bank’s commitment to supporting the community in Temburong has spanned several years now, as the district’s residents are regular recipients in the Bank’s annual Let’s Give Back this Ramadhan initiative, as well as the Bank’s yearly donation of school fees to underprivileged students across the country, including Temburong’s very own Pai Yuek School.
Speaking about this landmark step, Ti Eng Hui, Chief Executive Officer of Baiduri Bank said it allows the Bank to provide a self-banking solution to the population in Temburong and be better positioned to support the growth of the local community and businesses, with borders reopening and the renewed focus on tourism, especially as Baiduri Bank’s ATMs are the only machines that can accept UnionPay cards in the country, which the he hopes will be a factor in bringing in more tourists from China and other countries.
He said, “Since the opening of the Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien bridge over two years ago, the Temburong district has seen more business and employment opportunities, so we want to be part of the efforts to facilitate the district’s future of becoming a business and tourist destination.
“We hope that now, having established our official presence in the Temburong district, and along with the future projects surrounding the district, we can be more involved and show our support for the businesses and local community, so that together, we can help make Temburong not just a spot for tourists, but also for locals.”
Also present at the event were senior executives of Baiduri Bank, representatives from the Temburong District Office, representatives from Darussalam Enterprise, associations, business and community leaders in Temburong.
