SUSTAINABLE BANKING: BAIDURI BANK INTRODUCES ECO-FRIENDLY CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS

Baiduri Bank continues its journey towards sustainability with the transition of its credit and debit cards to bio-sourced polylactic acid (PLA), an eco-friendly material. This initiative, launched in collaboration with Thales, a leader in technology and innovation, marks a significant step in integrating sustainable practices into the Bank’s banking operations.

Lim Kian Chiong, Head of Retail Banking at Baiduri Bank, stated, "Our transition to PLA cards reflects our ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and integrating eco-friendly practices into our business. By leveraging innovative solutions from Thales, we aim to provide our customers with environmentally friendly payment options that align with our values of sustainability and corporate responsibility."

The transition began in the second half of last year, starting with debit cards. The PLA cards will be issued for all new card sign-ups and upon card renewals for existing cardholders, with the aim for all Baiduri credit and debit cards to be gradually replaced with this new eco-friendly material. The PLA cards, which are non-petroleum-based, non-toxic when incinerated, and biodegradable within six months, meet international quality standards while maintaining advanced payment technologies for secure and seamless transactions.

Paperless banking and digital innovation
Complementing its efforts to reduce physical waste, Baiduri Bank actively promotes paperless banking solutions. This includes digital services such as online banking, e-statements, and its latest innovation, Baiduri Tap2Pay, a Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled solution that transforms merchants' mobile devices into POS terminals, allowing customers to make contactless payments effortlessly.

In addition to transitioning to eco-friendly card materials, Baiduri Bank has also implemented several initiatives to promote environmental sustainability:

  • Energy-efficient operations: The Bank has adopted energy-efficient practices in its branches and offices, including the use of LED lighting and energy-saving appliances. Their headquarters in Jalan Gadong meets the requirements of the BCA Green Mark Scheme, an international benchmark for best practices in environmental design and performance.
  • Community engagement: Baiduri Bank participates in river and beach clean-up activities and other community events with a focus on sustainable practices, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship among its employees and customers.

We would like to inform you that with effect from 31 October 2023, Business i-Banking service will no longer be operational, and this will be replaced with our new Baiduri b.Digital Business service.

If your company has not transitioned to b.Digital Business, please ensure that every existing user provides the following by 8 October 2023 through the Business i-Banking Inbox:
  • User’s full name
  • User’s valid Identification Card (IC) or Passport
  • User’s mobile number
  • User's company assigned email address (General company email is not accepted e.g., [email protected])

Alternatively, you can complete the b.Digital Business Amendment Form and submit the form(s) directly to Baiduri Digital Hub, Ground Level, Baiduri Bank Headquarters.

Every user will receive a notification email at their registered email address, once they have been migrated and activated on the b.Digital Business service.

Companies who have not moved to b.Digital Business after 31 October 2023 can re-apply as a new subscriber to the b.Digital Business service. This will require additional documentations to be submitted as part of the application. Refer “Required Documents” here.

Important notice: Our Business i-Banking service will be deactivated soon. To ensure continued access and a smooth transition to the new Baiduri b.Digital Business, please provide your full name, IC, email address and mobile number via Business i-Banking Inbox. If we do not receive updated details from all authorised users, your company will not be migrated to the new platform and a fresh application will be required. To strengthen our online security measures, effective 8 January 2024, we will introduce the cooling period feature on our Baiduri b.Digital Personal web and mobile app to prevent unauthorised access.
