Baiduri Bank marked the 18th edition of its MSME Empowerment Series, reaffirming its commitment to developing Brunei’s micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector through practical, skills-based learning opportunities.
Held at the Baiduri Enterprise Hub, this latest instalment introduced a Sales Hackathon, an interactive session designed to help business owners connect directly with prospective customers through effective phone outreach. Entrepreneurs representing sectors such as technology, services, food and beverage and crafts took part in the session.
The workshop was facilitated by Kevin Legg and David Chan from SAGE, Singapore. Kevin Legg, Founder and Managing Partner of SAGE, brings over 20 years of experience in learning-at-work design across 16 countries and six industries. He previously served as Managing Director for GLG Singapore, ASEAN, Australia, and India, where he specialised in business development and management fundamentals education.
David Chan, a senior executive with over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor and industrial sectors, most recently served as Executive Vice President at Heraeus Electronics, where he oversaw a USD800 million business and drove regional growth through innovative strategies and partnerships.
The hackathon encouraged participants to apply sales concepts in real-time, making calls to their pre-identified target customers, refining scripts, and receiving live feedback from facilitators. Prior to the session, participants completed preparatory work, including identifying their ideal customer profiles, crafting personalised call scripts, and ensuring their products and services were market-ready for international audiences.
“We are moving beyond the traditional wave of group learning. Brunei’s MSMEs need practical, action-oriented strategies they can apply to grow their businesses and seize both local and regional opportunities. Today’s session aims to kick-start this journey, equipping businesses with the insights and tools needed to expand into regional markets and achieve sustainable growth,” Mohammad Isa Liew Mohd Amin Liew, Head of Business Banking, Baiduri Bank.
Since its inception in 2019, the MSME Empowerment Series has evolved into a cornerstone initiative under Baiduri Bank’s corporate social responsibility efforts, supporting Brunei’s business community through targeted capacity-building and advisory programmes. Previous editions have focused on brand development, market expansion, and client outreach, including sessions led by global experts such as Dr Jerome Joseph from the Global Brand Academy and Kevin Legg.
Through this long-running initiative, Baiduri Bank continues to strengthen its role as a partner in MSME growth, helping local entrepreneurs develop the skills, networks, and confidence to compete and thrive in both domestic and regional markets.
